Which is kinda sad to be honest.

Looks like it's possible to completely choke under the pressure of a big contract in a big market.

Well he's the leafs fourth best winger. So not a big deal.

But hey, for two mil less, I'd take that over a soft, one dimensional guy that scores just five more goals a year.

It's impossible to rationally defend that contract.

Expectations for him were "don't be as bad as last year".... so he's become a success story!

There you go again, Clarkson is making more money this season than Bobby Ryan.

In his last two seasons with the Devils he scored 30 goals (82 game season) and 15 goals (48 game season > a rate for 25.6 goals in an 82 game season)

So now with the leafs, 5 goals in 60 games in his first season, and 9 so far this season.

I would think that the Expectations. when he joined the leafs, were for a few more goals by now.

So I just wonder, what has changed besides the new team? Is he being used in a different role or what?

The Sens were trying to land him too, but he chose to go to toronto, knowing the spot light would be on him.

No matter who you sign on July 1st you can bet you're going to overpay or have to add to much duration to a deal. Clarkson had a career high of like 45 points and cashed in because of how desperate teams get. If the leafs didn't overpay, somebody else would have and then we'd have Dopps defending that disease of a contract instead of Prock.

Well Ottawa did not sign Bobby Ryan as an UFA, he's never been a UFA in his career.

Ottawa traded for him, in the second last year of his current contract, and negotiated a new contract with him, that kicks in next season.

Clarkson was an UFA, and his price was driven up by being one, and toronto bit.

So there is really not a comparison here, Ottawa negotiated with Ryan alone, and toronto was bidding against a few other teams in a process that made them overpay.

To be honest, I could care less what players are paid, they're going to get paid regardless.

The problem I have is with teams that paint themselves into a corner, with their chequebook, to the point where they can no longer improve their roster by not being able to move players with untradable contracts, or bring in the players they want, but can't, because they don't have the room under the cap.

So if the leafs have better players to play on the PP, why would they bring in Clarkson, who according to the posting above, his offence with the Devils was due to his time on the PP?

Oh I'm not defending it. I'm just laughing that "disease" is scoring slightly less than their "star" goal scorer.

I think it's starting to become clear that bobby Ryan is a second tier winger and goal scorer and they've signed him to a monster contract.

What youre too stupid to realize is that having no budget to spend is no different than having no cap space to spend.

Having bobby Ryan putting up 25 goals and 55 points as a soft one dimensional winger is no different than clarkson at 5 mil putting up 20 goals and 40 points.

Bobby Ryan (+8) leads the Senators in points, and helps the players he plays with to elevate their game. Mike Hoffman (+ 18), who plays regularly with Bobby Ryan is the leading Rookie goal scorer in the the NHL.

What you're not smart enough to understand, is that ALL teams in the NHL have internal budgets.

Some teams choose to spend to the Cap, and they are handcuffed when it comes to player trades and UFA acquisitions.

But some teams don't have this problem, because there is CAP ROOM between their internal budget, and the Cap, and when the time comes, they can and will spend what it takes to improve their roster.

The leafs have zero Cap flexibility and cannot improve their roster as they would wish. Whereas the Senators have more Cap space than they need, and have the flexibility that they need to sign players coming out of their ELCs and RFAs like Mika Zibanejad, Alex Chiasson, Mike Hoffman, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Mark Stone before next season.

I've posted recent quotes from the Owner, who says he will spend the necessary money when the time comes to re-sign these and other players.

Your whole premise for this comparison pivots on the myth in you mind that the Senators will never spend more than they are today, and everyone knows that is not the case, the Owner has publicly gone on the record, on TV, in print and on local radio saying the opposite of what you, and you alone think is going to happen.

Just because your star goal scorer is LEADING THE TEAM at a 55 point pace doesn't make it better.

Wasn't kyle turris some great two way player that putting him on the first line would make the send better? +22!!!!!

I guess now that he's on the first line, with all the pp time and such, still not scoring all that much, with a bad +/-, you'll have yo agree he sucks bag?
