Just heard on Local sports radio............The leafs season may be given a second life, it sounds as if they're calling up Nylander all the way from Sweden, and will join the leafs on their very challenging road trip.

come on now, he's going to the AHL.

not even nonis is dumb enough to call nylander up with the current poop show surrounding the leafs. he knows putting him into the lineup right now would be the best and fastest way to destroy him as a prospect........cuz we all know that if he wasn't immediately jesus christ on hockey skates, putting up ppg +, he would be crucified by the media...and so would management for bringing him up.

Just saying what I heard on the local radio.

It would make way more sense to send him to the AHL, than the baptism by fire it would be on the road with the leafs.

This other report does not say if it's the leafs or marlies??

It's a weird move either way.

I think based on the timing, Horachek wants him in the NHL... But bringing him in from overseas to play a 4 game west coast road trip would be craziness... I think me might sit the road trip out, just get some practice in, and suit up with the team back at home.

putting him in the NHL this year would be a big mistake IMO. This team is being scrutinized, and criticized right now, maybe more than any NHL team i've ever seen. The atmosphere around this team (either player driven, media driven, organizationally driven, or a nice mix of all 3) is just toxic. i think it would be a TERRIBLE mistake to bring him up this year and subject him to the INSANE pressure we all know he'd be under.

calling him up now, in the middle of all this turmoil......is essentially painting him as the "saviour". we all know that's not what he is, but at the same time, we all know that's EXACTLY how it will be portrayed.

at the end of the year, once the leafs are eliminated from the playoff hunt (if it comes to that) then call him up and let him get some NHL games....but putting him in right now has SOOOOOOO much potential of turning into a disaster. i mean really, he's your only really good prospect, it would be horrible for the organization to ruin him.

They're not being scrutinized that much more than usual. Toronto's media had been awful for the team for a while.

I doubt anybody will look at the 19 year old offense first guy as a savior, given what we already have on roster.

Maybe it had to do with MODO just being an awful team this year, and they will put him with the marlies, so he can adapt to north Americann ice

i don't think "real fans" who follow the team regularly and passionately will think that. but we all know the media will try to make it look like that, they'll ask him questions about how he feels he can help the team turn things around, he'll be front page news on every sports section in toronto. the pressure that the media will put on him will be insane.

and yes, they're always scrutinized.....but it just feels so much worse now than it has in a while. i've never heard so much "trade kessel" from fans and media....it's crazy.

Well, he's safe from the bright lights for now, he and the Leafs other top forward prospect apparently won't be called up to the Leafs under any circumstances this season, they're just expected to hone their craft in the minors.

Isn't Lazar 19, struggling in the NHL, wasn't that good in the wjhv?

Wouldn't the smart thing be to send a kid like that down?

He's not struggling at all. He's playing in the bottom six forwards, and on the PK, and is holding his own.

But yes, the best thing for him, as I said in numerous posts at the beginning of the season, was to gop back to Junior for another season.

After they kept him up, then I said he should go to the WJC, where he would, and did, lead Team Canada, as their Captain, to the Gold medal, and lead the team in goals scored.

And now I think he should be sent back to Junior, before he plays 35 games in the NHL. Pageau is up with the team now, and can fill the role that Lazar is playing, besides, once more of the injured players (Smith & Neil) come back to the roster his playing time will be reduces, so would be better off, in the long run, finishing the season in Juniors.

Besides, Ottawa has enough rookies on the team this season, two of the top five in scoring.

I thought Lazar had a great tournament. Complimented McDavid well, and was an excellent leader for the team and a calming influence. I don't project him personally to be a PPG player but a very effective two way, 60 point player isn't out of the question and you win with guys like that.

Their Impact doesn't always translate to the score sheet but in the puck possession crazed NHL they are tremendously valuable players.

Just had a chance to read Mike Zeisbergers' article in the Toronto Sun, and he says they're sending him to the marlies, who are also on the road.

Sending him to Modo was a mistake IMO, and I said so at the end of training camp. They should keep him there for the entire AHL season and groom him for the NHL team for next season, if he's ready.

BUT, how long do you think it'll be before we hear the "Nylander" chant in the ACC if the leafs continue to have teams pass them in the standing??

Do you have faith that the current management group will NOT yield to media and fan pressure to see their shiny new player on the NHL team?

The only "bad" thing about him playing in the SEL is that MODO was a train wreck. It's not really the kind of environment you want your developing player to be in. The Marlies aren't great this year either though.

He was playing in the SHL. But that's besides the point.

He needed to acclimatize himself to the North American style of play.

No need to go back to a No contact hockey league, as it was not going to benefit him as much as starting the season with the marlies would have done.

But now it seems they've done the right thing for him, and let's hope they resist the inevitablee calls from the fans and the media, to call him up to the leafs, and leave him in the AHL.

All because the Bobby Ryans of this world had to be selected, so no team would feel left out.

The worlds fastest doughnut was selected becasue there is no back-checking in the all star game, and he leads the league in that department.

Oh and he won't get Kesseled this year, as they dropped the "school yard pick" where he was the last one selected, by his peers, a few years back.
