i've watched a few of the sweden games, and nylander in particular, and this is a pretty bang on assessment.

i've found myself intrigued in this tournament by both lazar and nylander, and watching the differences in their game, but how they're both so good at what they do.

nylander is the slick playmaker, setting up other guys with sick passes and good vision.

lazar is the goal scorer, always seems to be in the right place at the right time, banging in rebounds or sniping with a really good shot. hard on the forecheck to create turnovers.

i think both teams got gems with these 2 guys.....and they'll both be fun to watch for years.

what has really pissed me off this tournament is to realize how (frank)ing well winnipeg has been drafting for the past few years.......man they're gonna be good in a couple of years.

I don't think Lazar has been all that good to be honest. That said, I don't think his skill set suits a top 6 player.

I think what you're interpreting as Lazar being in the right spot, is really McDavid's phenomenal ability to find an open man in a prime scoring position. McDavid has seriously turned it on these past few games. He's unreal.

look at all the goals that line scored yesterday, Lazar really didn't have much to do with any of them. The first, he dished off to Petan, not a particularly great pass, Petan grabbed it on his backhand, and sniped it. The second, he dished off to McDavid, who somehow, unbelievably gets it to Petan, who snipes it. The third one, he's sitting in front, gets the puck, tries a fancy play, gets nowhere, McDavid picks it up behind the net, jumps into the slot, dishes to petan, beauty pass, to an open Petan. It really was all McDavid, with Petan doing the sniping.

you're completely incapable of not trolling sens players.....it's (frank)ign hilarious

yes, lazar is poop, he's 2nd in tournament scoring (tied with nylander, with twice as many goals) ONLY because of mcdavid.

No, I will not be in a leaf jersey, I'm walking over after work. I wouldn't wear a Leaf Jersey anyway. Would you wear a Sens jersey, or would you be too ashamed after the way Lazar has played?

I think the Russians will get killed. I suspect Canada will have upwards of 40 shots. Russia, for the most part, has not been very good. That said, I thought they'd get killed by the Swedes. The Swedes just played like garbage. The Russians have been bad defensively for the most part, giving up tonnes of shots, and been anchored by a goalie playing very well. But Canada's snipers are not the same as Denmark's or the US's, and I doubt that works. Petan, McDavid, Domi, Reinhart, these guys will bury those chances.

- prock

Why would you think I would be ashamed of how Lazar has played?

Are you?

From what I've seen and been hearing (from the media covering the event) he's been a great pick for Captain, and one of the leading scorers on the team.

I would only wear a Sens jersey to a Senators game. I have collection of NHL jerseys and Russian and a Swedish one or two.

You start off this discussion giving great insight and observation............and them dive bomb and take the Low road with no reason to do so.

Sounds like Spatso has had you pegged all along.

No one here has taken a shot at Nylanders' performance at the WJC, but you have to slag on Lazar.

Now please give us the Dirt on Nick Paul while you're at it please.

obviously paul is complete garbage....career AHLer. unlike gauthier, who will likely be a hall of fame player, despite actually being a pretty bad hockey player

I think that is, in fact, 100% true. If he was not on a line with McDavid, and to a lesser extent, Petan, he does not get into the top 10 in tourney scoring.

He had little to do with any of his points yesterday. He had the breakaway goal against the Danes, and the other pass to Point, which was a nice play (but also off a beauty set up and play by McDavid).

Tell me some of the plays I'm wrong? Show me some points he's generated. I just named three plays that he picked up three points, and did little to nothing on them.

I honestly don't think you're watching if you think anything other than it being McDavid running that line, and generating almost all of their opportunities. He's setting his linemates up, point blank, left, right, and centre.

hmmmmmmm take opinion of troll who lives to bad mouth sens....pretty much his only purpose in life, or

take opinion of every single analyst, professional who covers hockey for a living, who says that lazar has been one of Canada's best players.

every single TSN analsyt who has covered a team Canada game.........perhaps YOU are the one who hasn't been watching.

it's okay prock, everyone on this site (leafs fans included) know that you're nothing but a troll who's analysis of other teams is based 100% on hate, and zero % on actual hockey knowledge

Yes, Lazar is definitely more suited a bottom six role.

and nylander is suited to not being good enough to play in the NHL....i guess we're all in agreement.

and google away, unless they have people who are typing every word that analysts say during broadcasts.......

your hatred of lazar, a clearly better overall player, is just beautiful though....brings a smile to my face every time you try and poop talk him.

i'm at the games, watching.

If there are so many analysts saying this kind of thing, it would be in print. That's what media does.

It can't be found. They don't exist.

I can type “Curtis Lazar best player Team Canada” and it won’t come up with anything. I type “Connor McDavid”, and that’s good enough, there are pages and articles on how good he’s been.

Most people being everyone. I'm not sure. Sens fans insecurity.

It's my honest opinion. He's the weak link on that line. McDavid is carrying that line. Almost all the offense is being generated by him. He takes it, and feeds the other two, creating great chances. Most often, the guy he's feeding is Petan, even moreso as the tournament moves on.

Lazar just looks like a third liner to me. He doesn't seem to have the offensive skills. He doesn't even look to fit in as a top 6 in a junior tournament.

Think so? I don't know much about him. I saw he played with the Habs already, so I was kind of expecting him to be pretty good.

Granted, his linemates were terrible. Some Blidh guy. The guy was so bad. Seriously cost the team against Russia a few times.

He's not very good in the AHL. Struggled in that tournament.

I don't expect much from him, maybe he turns into an OK 3rd liner.

I don't have high hopes.

Eh, he's far more NHL ready than most guys. He looks pretty good out there. He just doesn't have an overly high ceiling I don't think while Nylander has elite offensive potential. Lazar is probably more of a sure thing but I'd rather have Nylander's upside since it's harder to come by.

I don't get it. Why is a 19 year old doing so well he's playing with the big club but a mediocre player in the world juniors.

Slovaks just sniped one.
