typical Senators game. They dominate the first and third periods, but are totally playing the whole second period in their own end. '

Islanders benefit from terrible giveaways, and score off a Senators skate in overtime.

Lazar looking very comfortable each and every game, but still think he'd benifit from going to the WJC, and there are some roster moves that would be required if he's kept around instead.

Ottawa is -6.5 shot differential.. cant win that way

He played a solid game, one giveaway and two takeaways (according to nhl.com) .

I just watched the TSN highlights..doesn't show a turnover... I did see #7 very lazily checking the goal scorer..wow no wonder you suck defensivly with effort like that

Sens got lucky on another one that didnt count...Anderson flubbed it..but it crossed the line at 0.0

Trust me there were lots of turnovers in the Second period, and after the period they did not need to flood the Islanders end of the the rink.

"dominate"

Outshot in the 1st and 3rd, tied for shots in the 2nd.

http://hockeystats.ca/game/2014020363#collapseOne

looking at the graph on that page, it shows the Sens had the slight advantage 5-on-5 in the first, but the Islanders took control for the rest of the game.

The senators didn't have Anderson standing on his head last night, hence the loss. His play is pretty much the deciding factor in all Senators games, since there's nothing worth a damn in the forward group, and the only standout defenseman on the team seems to be having an off-year so far.

Edit: Lazar is doing a great job living up to the Bolland hype.

Cowen gave away the puck that lead to an Islanders goal.

From the Ottawa Citizen
"In the neutral zone, Jared Cowen cleared the puck along the boards directly to Kyle Okposo. Okposo’s pass to Nelson deflected off Ceci’s skate, allowing Nelson to break in alone and beat Anderson high to the stick side."

I do have the advantage of having watched the game, and know that the Senators came out strong in the first, and controlled the puck for the first five or six minutes of the period.

The second period was all Islanders, and the puck was hardly in their zone.

The third was a strong push back by the Senators and that lead to the GTG late inthe period.

OT was settled by a deflected shot off a Sens Skate.

read all the Stats you want, but watching the game tells you much more that you'll get from any kind of stats, or even TSN highlights.

Why comment on a puck that crosses the line after the clock has run out?

For the same reason you'd comment on illegal goals not counting, I suppose.

As far as I know there are no such things as illegal goals.

I know you don't believe in watching games, and reviewing plays in slow motion, but sometimes you catch a few mistakes by the officials, who are human, and see things at ice level in real time.

There is not a game that goes by, that I catch a few offside calls missed one way or another..........and goals waved of that should have been allowed according to the rule of the game.

But you can stick to stats, and stats alone, as they make you the expert that you are.

That advantage only goes so far... and you being you, it's not much of an advantage at all.

Sens managed to maintain possession in the first period, but everything from the shot clock to the hits counter, the takeaways, the blocked shots, the penalty minutes, and finally the score shows that they were chasing the puck all night long, while the Islanders had their way with the Sens.

Take a look at Cizikas's face after the no-goal call. That's the face of a guy who knows he didn't need the goal, because the team's not facing a real challenge.

Well then, you keep complaining about goals that don't count because they're kicked in, knocked in with a high-stick, or thrown in. As long as your team is the one trying those, anyways... and don't forget to dismiss goals against because they went in off a senator.

Again, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Why to newspapers send columnists to games? Could they not just save that expense and have them write their columns after reading the stats from the games?

Never pretend you know what happened in a game based on stats alone. It just make you look silly. I never comment on another team's game, if I've not watched the game. I'm smart enough to as people who've watched the game if the accounts of it are correct of not.

Perhaps you should do the same.

I'll ask, as soon as one of the knowledgable Senators posters shows up.

As for the newspaper columnists who attend games, their opinions are usually worth less than the NHL highlight package, so that's not a great example.

I listen to the sens pregame shows pretty much every game on my drive home
..they have them on the show..doing "analyses".. honestly is just horrible radio.. its so narrative driven and lacks any real info and analyzing.. I know most of the mainstream fans eat that stuff up..but as for knowing what happened during a game..its absolute garbage.. I listen to hear what dumb stuff they say

NEVER listen to pre or post game radio shows. I don't need anyone to tell me what I saw in the previous game, or just after watching that days game.

Either you're not to quick on the up take, or just not able to comprehend simple examples of why first hand accounts of games, made by people who watch them, are so much more representative of a game, than any amount of stats that you might bring up in a conversation.
