you'll have to ask Cape Breton Bruins & Feeling Glucky? they're the ones who brought this up.

BTW I agree with them.

PS here's a bone for the leaf trolls http://nilsenreport.ca/20...awa-senators-finish-29th/

So what's the problem, if you agree that Lazar is a good 3rd line, below average 2nd line prospect. Bolland put up close to 50 points one year. I'd say that aligns pretty closely with what I'm saying. Lazar is essentially projecting to be Bolland-lite.

There is very little that I agree with your assessment of anything Senators related.

I'd be more inclined to agree with those who saw Lazar as a poor man's Patrice Bergeron, a hard worker, a solid 2nd-line 2-way center who can score close to 20 goals and be on the first unit PK, when assessed after he was drafted over a year ago.

He has put on about 10 to 15 pounds since then, so he is progressing in the right way.

Like, slums of Mumbai poor man? Sure, I can see that. Whereas, Dave Bolland would be more like a Harlem ghetto poor man’s Patrice Bergeron.

either way, if he plays for the Sens, he's definitely a "poor man's" some kind of player.

You agree that Lazar would be lucky to match Bolland?

Interesting.

Bolland isn’t a bad player at all. 40 to 50 points at his best, adds some grit. I can see Lazar being a poor man’s Bolland.

Shame Bolland missed most of the season last year. Of course, having half your roster miss significant portions of the season means nothing compared to the bumps and bruises a couple of Sens had. I hear it really held them back. Apparently injuries were a real problem to the least injured team in the league last year.

Actually, no. More pointing out how absurd it is that Sens fans actually do point to injuries as a problem for them last year.

Last year when they finished ahead of the leafs, who some leaf fans have whined that if their starter and other players, had not gotten injured they would have gone deep into the playoffs.

If Bernier plays the way he did all season, prior to the injury(nothing to suggest that level of play is over his head), and they don't have all the injuries, they get into the playoffs, and maybe even the second round.

That's it.

- Feeling Glucky?

Bolland wasn't the problem. The lack of depth at center is a problem. Losing Bolland and Bozak early in the season, and Kadri for a few games, didn't help.

When the one NHL center on your team is McClement... there's a problem.

- Feeling Glucky?

no, losing Bolland and having Clarkson crap out hurt them.

Yeah, lots of injuries. Didn't help things.

The sens lost the fewest amount of games in the league to injury. The leafs, and 28 other teams, should be using injuries before the sens. The sens will most likely see an increase in injuries this year, as they were freakishly lucky to remain very healthy.

Oh well. Now you've got a $7.5M contract for a 25 goal/60 point winger, for the next 7 years. Do you really think I care?

Hahah. No, not fear. It made me laugh that the Sens would throw too much cash at him, and he’d jump ship anyway. In the end, he decided he’s not the competitive type, and would take the overpayment to stay in Ottawa where there is no expectation to win. Good for him, he got his payday.

Except, if you actually count their production starting at the same age, it tells a totally different story. Even with Getzlaf and Perry jacking up his stats, he still loses out big time.

Ask yourself, who would you rather right now? Obviously Kessel is country miles better. One, best forward in the Olympics. The other couldn’t make the team.

Point is:
For this type of player, who can score 30 goals per season, 7 million per will become (or already is) the norm.

His agent had good numbers to work with and found him a good payday.
Besides, Ottawa has plenty of capspace so who cares if some may think Ryan is overpaid.

And yes, I would take Kessel over Ryan.

Kessel was the best forward at the Olympics before the medals round started.

I'm including $250K for a spelling tutor. I guess that doesn't count against the cap, but the cap isn't really a factor for the Sens, actual salary is.

Someone has to teach him to spell intensity.
