Most Sens fans agree with you ,he will top out as another fisher type imho

- top shelf 15

I would agree with that. Thats what the "Scouts" had to say about him in June of last year.

“Lazar is a gritty and hard-working 200-foot player that also has some high-end offensive ability,” says Ross MacLean, head scout for International Scouting Services. “He’s a very good linear skater with good hands and a strong release on his shot, making him a very dangerous shooting option off the rush. He is intelligent around the net, has good vision and can set up in the perimeter effectively as well. Lazar is an all-situations capable player who has the skill to compete against top opposition and always seems to up his game when the stakes get higher. I would expect him to start putting up some significantly higher offensive numbers the remainder of his junior career.”

i also remember him arguing that luke schenn was going to be leaps and bounds better than erik karlsson

- sensarmy_11

Well I don't recall ever saying that.

But he is leaps and bounds better defensively.

You totally missed the point. But that does not surprise me.

The SHL is NOT as good as preparing players for the NHL than the AHL or CHL.

Big ice vs Small ice......... No hitting vs hitting etc etc.

Nylander would be better served playing in the AHL than the SHL, if he has any aspirations of playing in the NHL.

- Doppleganger

That’s your opinion, and not necessarily accurate. Nor does “preparing for NHL hockey” have anything to do with what was being discussed. But, that’s your M.O. I guess. You know you’re wrong, and don’t like what’s being posted, so try change the argument to something completely irrelevant.

Further, you seem to think that being accustomed to playing on a smaller/bigger ice surface trumps being a better player/team. Haven’t you learned your lesson by now?

had mediocre numbers, playing on the bottom pair, mostly against 4th line competition. defence is easy when you're playing against players with little to no offensive ability

Stats show more players graduate to the NHL by developing through he CHL and AHL than from the SHL.

Sorry.

So you’re saying a Canadian league, comprised mostly of Canadian players, graduate more players to the NHL, which is a majority (or near to, it’s pretty close), than the SEL? WOW.

So, of players drafted in the first round, what % of those from the SEL make it. How about the CHL?

I don’t know the answer.

I just know that you’re statements above about more NHL players coming from the CHL are meaningless in terms of this conversation.

If you were to advise Nylander where to play this season, where would you recommend he play, the AHL or the SHL?

What would my preference be, of all his choices?

1. AHL
2. SEL
3. NHL
4. CHL

As for Lazar, I've stated numerous times in this, and other threads, he should return to the CHL, which is his only choice other than the NHL.

- Doppleganger

I agree.

Is Henrik Samuelsson still playing in the WHL this year? How about Kulda? Griffin Reinhart? Maybe if those guys are gone, he can be the go to guy on his team, and maybe crack the top 20 in scoring in the WHL. Maybe if he can be dominant against kids this year, he can move on, and be more prepared to play against men next year.

I don't see the need to rush a 19 year old into a NHL line up, when there are other prospects that should be given a shot ahead of him.

Lazar can also experience another WJC and come back next year and have the option of the AHL if he is not going to make the NHL roster.

BTW, a couple of years ago you were pretty high on Tyler Biggs...........what's his status now? Is he going to make it onto the leafs roster soon?

I've NEVER been high on Tyler Biggs. I've maintained all along that the four draft picks taken in that draft by Ottawa and Toronto, late in the first, were not strong picks, with Stu Percy being the best of the four.

Biggs was probably the safest bet to make the NHL, but not likely to ever be anything special. He'll probably be a useful depth forechecker bump and grind guy one day.

At some point, he'll probably end up in the bottom 6. Probably not this year. 2 or 3 years.

Percy will likely be getting time this year.

As for Ottawa, I see Matt Puempel getting some time this season for Ottawa................. that's if he continues his pace from last season, and so far though training camp, he should be the first one called up for the AHL

I'd hope so. Failure to crack the worst groups of forwards in the NHL would be pretty bad.

Lars Eller had a similar career path as Nylander. Playing with men while putting up good numers, yada yada yada... First Round pick (13th overall).

All of this to say, nothing guarantees that Nylander will be good at the NHL level.

- Pecafan Fan

Eller's pretty decent though. I'd be cool with that being Nylander's floor.

And yet the Senators finished ahead of the leafs last season, so how terrible must the group of forward be in toronto?

David Clarkson, five goals for $1.05 MILLION each last season, hope he can keep up that pace for the next SIX seasons.

Hey the leafs still have room under the Cap, I hear Dustin Penner is still available.

Really like Buddy Robinson. If Neil can be moved I would be really happy to see this kid get some 4th line minutes. He has the size 6'5" and 235 and is a really good skater with okay hands.

Bolland and Lazar comparison. Only here.
- Cape Breton Bruins

Sunday @ 12:52 PM ET

Just dopps being dopps

Doubtful that lazar ever scores as meaningful a goal.

- Feeling Glucky?

Uh, sorry that particular comparison was brought to this thread by your good friend prock

September 25 @ 3:55 PM ET

I have a funny feeling that last year at this time, you wouldn’t have made the same comments about the Leafs picking up Dave Bolland, who scored the game winning goal in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final against Boston.

Wasn’t Bibeau named the goalie of the tourney?

Surely Lazar was named the best forward?

- prock

I merely commented on it.

Friday @ 4:03 PM ET

No, you're right the guy who scored the OT winner for the Oil Kings 2:42 into the third overtime of the semifinal against Foreurs was a "passenger".............therefore by your logic, Bolland was a passenger in the SCFs

What exactly is wrong with the comparison? I realize Bolland FAR outperformed Lazar at the same age. But they're the same type of player, other than Bolland having more offensive capability.

Explain what is wrong?
