With 3 wins in 4 games, the Toronto Maple Leafs wiped the floor with the Ottawa Senators in the 2013/14 NHL season. With a .750 win% against them, a few more games against the Ottawa Senators likely would have put the Leafs in the playoffs.
- prock

And yet the Senators finished ahead of the leafs in standing at the end of the season.

If memory serves me correctly, the Senators have finished ahead of the leafs in the standings, 8 times in the last 11 seasons.

Ottawa also made the playoffs 6 times in the last 9 seasons, to the 1 time in the same span for the leafs.

So clearly the Senators are the better team when compared to the other Ontario based team, for the past 10 plus seasons.

If both teams are going to miss the playoffs I hope the leafs finish behind Ottawa again. Its a win for everyone. Leafs get the better prospect and Sens fans get to feel good because they were less awful than Toronto.

Did you not see the score of that rookie game? 6-2 Ottawa.

So the answer right now is SENS.

man, this thread is ridiculous.

just for fun, i went back and read teh first few pages......didn't realize how long ago this was created.

people were arguing about the two teams cores......

schenn, kaberle, sundin, etc.....leafs had tons of prospects, young roster players and cap room

vs

heatley, spezza, alfi, philips.....sens were tied down by big contracts and had no cap room

if only people knew then what they do now

He's still pushing his anti-olympic agenda, holy (frank) lol.

Why not bring up the big ice again while we're at it. That argument went so well for you dopps.

Ottawa's playoff hopes were squashed when Hasek sustained an injury that kept him out of the playoffs, when they had a good chance to go deep..............so yes I'm not a fan of the NHL compressing their schedule for an entire season to accommodate the Olympics. Perhaps some more leaf fans now think so too, as Bernier's injury could also have ties to the compressed schedule after a long layoff for the Olympics.

You're suggesting Bernier was injured because... he was too rested?

Yes. When do most groin or Hamstring injuries occur? Early in the season, after a lay off, and perhaps this was a contributing factor to his groin injury. A three week plus layoff and then jumping back into a compressed schedule, not an impossibility.

Perhaps you know exactly the reason?

I got to cheer for a winner and witness one of the best defensive efforts in the history of hockey as Canada won gold. I'd have a hard time trying to spin that into a negative.

Well, if Bernier was too stupid to stay fit during the Olympic Break, I guess he's got only himself to blame for that.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy Olympic hockey just as much as the next guy. I just dislike the price paid by the NHL to accommodate the Olympics.

I there was a way to separate the two, that would be perfect, but don't see a way.

I would like to see the WJC moved to the Olympics every four years, and let the NHL alone. But that's not going to happen.

It's always fun reading old posts.

Gionta IS better than Kessel. It doesn't mean that Kessel isn't any good (I can admit his talent even though he plays for Toronto), but Brian Gionta is presently a better hockey player than Phil Kessel.

You just have a hard time believing it because Gionta is a Hab and is the smallest player in the NHL.

Because it was his choice to shutdown the NHL season?

There's two sides to having the NHL shutdown for 3 plus weeks in the stretch drive to the playoffs. The Senators got screwed when they lost Hasek, and I'm suggesting that perhaps the shutdown contributed to Bernier's injury, as I don't see how it can be completely ruled out.

I just love Olympic hockey. It sucks when someone like Hasek, Tavares, Sakic, etc gets hurt but as a fan I feel it's still worth the risk.

RogerRoepper
Kaberle is without a doubt worth a first rounder.

SpOOnz
Having an owner with deep pockets and a desire to win keeps the Senators in the NHL

sens4life_
He actually is worth billions...he is a top money maker in horse racing and could care less if he loses a couple million in the senators which is why he is trying to get an ottawa professional team. If he wasn't a money maker he couldn't afford two professional teams lol or am i wrong??

No, because he's a highly paid professional and it's his responsibility to stay in shape and be ready to play when needed.
