Most of the media are expecting significant changes to the Leaf roster and behind the bench. I do not expect a lot of change. My guess is they will try to package Phaneuf but will not find a dance paertner.

The point on the core being locked up is that almost every dollar rise in cap is spendable. Consider the impact of losing no one and having room to go out and buy another top player. Its helpful. Obviously having cap space AND a top team but how common is that?
- prock

Cap room is only has good as how's it spent, it obviously doesn't guarantee success and reaching into the UFA market year after year can be dangerous to the progression of a franchise.

Granted I didn't expect Clarkson to have such an abysmal season but the man got over $5m a year and never scored 50 points in his life. You start piling on contracts like that and it can be a slippery slope.

Every team has a bad contract or, at least one, they wish were different. In the case of the Leafs the Clarkson and Phaneuf deals are very pricey and really cuts down on their options this off season.

too bad.. would have been a good option imo

sounds like he had an option and the team picked it up..which is why deboer was answering the questions the way he did.. wanted to leave he door open in case they didnt

Yes, but having the space is never a bad thing. They may not make much use of it, but its still a positive. It will be interesting to see if Clarkson can approach hisvgoal totals of years past. If so, its not bad.

All the rumors seemed to center around DeBoer which I said from the start made no sense as he isn't available.

I was kind of worried that the leafs would try to lure Luke Richardson away from binghampton, but from what i've read, he seems to want to stay there (his daughter goes to school there).

he'd be good for your young players

A little uncalled for. He named the overpaid Leafs, I named the overpaid Sens. What's the problem?

you're complete inability to judge a player's worth, and to understand what overpaid is.

plus, you're just dumb in general

Care to expand? A depth defensive dman paid $4M, a centre who's widely called his team's second line centre at $7M cap hit, and a one dimensional offensive dman who is arguably the worst defenseman defensively in the entire league paid over $6M, are all not good value. I think that's pretty clear.

a top 4 d-man at 4 mil is a solid deal

a ppg, top line centre, with a 7 mil cap hit and 4 mil salary is a deal that teams would love

a norris trophy winning, 22 year old d-man, locked in longterm at 6.5 is beyond a good deal........and only retarded haters, such as yourself, would think otherwise.

but continue to hate......i love it. you realize that your team has NOTHING going for it, is bogged down with tons of horrible contracts, and have pulled off EPIC chokes 3 years in a row.

if my team was such a walking calamity, i'd probably be as bitter as you.

EK if he would have scored one more point ,would have been one of three defensemen to have ever scored 75 points or more before the age of 22
