I read it was Pierre Mcguire who wanted Hamonic. the 2 Pierres are going to steer the ship into the ground and waste a rebuild.

TSN 1200 in Ottawa is running a contest where you can jump on a bus and they will drive you to Belleville

Basically they are running a contest to get on a Bus and drive away from Ottawa to Not watch a Sens game

Melnyk is gone though. If they get a decent owner, in 5 years theyll be competing for a playoff spot.

My background is insolvency. It has been clear to most everyone for a long time that Melnyk was unable to meet his debts as they became due. He routinely committed acts of insolvency on an almost daily basis. Most of the outrage over financial issues is gone. People wanted to move on. I understand there are still folks wanting to be paid but hockey fans just wanted to stop talking about the financial stuff since a long time ago.

I stopped talking about it several years ago. I dealt with my frustration on the obvious by using variations on the expression that the Melnyk problem will be resolved on God's time. God has now spoken.

Matthews was a no show last night. We must be getting near playoff time. At one point announcers actually started whining over the fact that the Sens were on top of Matthews the entire game. Imagine what happens when he actually has to play against a tight defensive group come the playoffs.

Just watch Toronto play Tampa in the first round and get shown what it's like to win in the playoffs. Matthews was totally shut down by the Sens on Saturday night, so I can only imagine what the 2 time Cup champs will do.

Watching the Ottawa game last night, it made realize how great they can be in 2 years. Next year they should take a huge strides in hopefully becoming a playoff contender at minimum.

As for the Leafs, once teams focus on Matthews, in the playoffs, you will see Toronto struggle yet again, plus that kind of goaltending, lol. Enjoy the extra 10 days to your season Toronto lol.

yeah, they can be just as good in 2 years. all they have to do is acquire a few pieces, like matthews, marner, tavares, nylander, all of which they have no equivalent to, and nobody there yet that projects to be at any of these guys level.

And of course, they'll need to acquire another 6 NHL caliber dmen, given that players like Zub and Zaitsev are hardly anywhere near the likes of girodano, rielly, muzzin, sandin, liiljegren..... Hell where does Chabot even fit in that group? in the middle somewehere? They keep screwing up their draft takign the likes of crap like Jake Sanderson, and passing on top talents like Jamie Drysdale.

I'm sure they can acquire 4 elite forward talents and 6 good defense in 2 years. no problemo!

in reality, the Sens are probably closer to about 3 or 4 years away from being a playoff team, unless they end up landing something like both Shane Wright and Connor Bedard, and somehow manage to convince some very good D to sign in Ottawa (when nobody wants to sign there). They are a long, long, long ways away from being a top team.

I like the part "take a huge strides in hopefully becoming a playoff contender"

like they need to make a huge jump, just to hopefully be a playoff bubble team.

says a lot, 5 years into a rebuild

And what I'm saying is, they need the elite, as soon as they're drafted type player (Sidney Crosby, CMac), to make them a playoff contender, in 2 years. Maybe even more than that. They need too much to go right, even to make them a bubble team, in 2 years. It's a 3 or 4 year road from where they are, just to be a bubble team. and that's assuming things go well.

Unless they somehow manage to sign some top players. But, guys like Tavares don't hit free agency very oten, and when they do, they don't choose Ottawa (quite the opposite actually, they choose to leave ottawa).

They may be 5 years into a rebuild, but I think they're still a lot furhter than 2 years from being a good team. They're a bottom feeder with little talent and not really a world beating prospect pool either (widely considered near the bottom).

Possibly, depending on new ownership. With the franchise (according to Forbes) worth less money ($525M) than the Kraken ($650M) a potential move to Quebec might be possible. New ownership could also be considerably more competent than Melnyk (not that difficult) Sens are strong in this year's draft with a pick that is looking like #7 or better 2 seconds, 2 thirds and 3 fifths. They should get better soon with competent ownership, but it might not be the Ottawa Senators.

I jsut don't think "soon", is 2 years. Inevitably, all bottom dwellers get better. But a 7tg overall pick is not going to make a huge impact, right away (maybe not ever actually, 7th overalls are hardly slam dunks)

i think if youre looking at a team in the division that will be good in 2 years time, it's probably Detroit. They're a better team, with better young players, and a better prospect pool, better management. The city itself isn't really much better as an attraction, but everthing else is in better shape.

That 7th overall is a lottery pick and they have a chance at 1st or 2nd overall, which would change the dynamic. Not immediately, but speed up the process. The original question of who is in a better position was answered long ago.

I think I determined that this thread was started in 2007 or 2008. I looked at it a little while back.

15 years. That's..... incredible. The early pages talk about the sens building around their young stars, Heatley, Phillips and Spezza, and what Bryan Murray can do... Hilarious.

you could say the management teams have changed so much since then. You know, teams have hired new GMs and such. But, in Ottawa's case, not only have they gone through new management teams, the entire management team from when this thread started are not only retired, fired, whatever.... they're dead.
