It would if the discussion was about what we would have preferred over the last 5 seasons. But it was about going forward.

Honestly, I think the Sens are far better off going forward than they were about a year ago. Still not spectacular though. Not too many bad contracts (Spezza and maybe Cheechoo and Kovalev is starting to look bad, but the last 2 are only one more year), a couple of decent young players. Still a little weak in the prospect department, and their captain and best player is on his last legs. All said and done, could be worse, could be better.

The Leafs are kind of in a very different position... I see them as in a very high risk, high reward situation going forward. There are a lot of young guys with a lot of potential. I don't really see any guys that could end up as elite guys though. The most likely is probably Kadri, and I don't put that as high likelihood. If 3 or 4 of those guys (Caputi, Kadri, Stalberg, Bozak, Kulemin, Gunnarson, Aulie) really develop into something top notch, the Leafs could have a top team. But that's a lot to ask. If none of them do, the Leafs could see at least 3 or 4 more tough years.

Going forward, I would rather be in the playoffs and be using a draft pick in the first round

I didn't think it would need explanation, but I guess there are children on the board. Going forward = next year, the year after, and the year after that. i.e. the foreseeable future.

It takes a really special person to post it twice.

Would you also like the contracts of Gomez, Gionta, Hamrlik, and Spacek taking 40% of your cap? Would you also like a crappy stable of prospects and young players going forward? Are those all things you like going forward?

Gionta and his 28 goals in 61 games? Yeah, I'm fine with that.
Gionta > Kessel.

Going forward, I would rather be in the playoffs and be using a draft pick in the first (potentially the first overall) and second rounds of this entry draft, and the first round of the 2011 entry draft.

The Senators and Habs can't even win a season series against the Leafs.

How are they suppose to win a series against Pittsburgh and Washington?

I've been waiting for 6 years now to tell you that your team will get swept in the first round of the playoffs...

You've been waiting a lot longer than that. The teams they had before the lockout never stood a shot at being swept in the first round, for about 6 or 8 years.

Yeah, he is, but that's pretty damn lucky we ended up with a guy like that in the 6th round.

Hugely outscored him, won rookie of the year for the NCAA over Leblanc, had an exceptional world juniors which Leblanc didn't make (nearly leading the tourney, tied Taylor Hall in scoring).... And it's not like he's one of these undersized junior sensations - he's just under 6 foot, 200 pounds, and fast as hell.

I'm pretty sure he'd easily go ahead of Leblanc in the draft if it was redone.

Idk

Ask the guys who chose him as the "Rookie of the Year" over Leblanc...
Or U-18 Roster which he captained to gold.
Or the U-20 Roster which he came second(or tied for first) in goals to a gold.

He came third. 2 guys had 8, he was next at 6.
