totally, especially when 10% of the top 50 (5 players) are Sens prospects.

Brannstrom, Thomson, Pinto, Bernard-Docker, and Norris (and they aren't even considering Batherson, who'd easily be in the top 10)

Leafs have 2 guys on the entire list, one of whom shouldn't sniff the top 50, let alone the top 10.

I've never claimed Sandin wasn't a good prospect, he deserves to be where he is.

- sensarmy_11

yeah, a few guys well down that list, well below the 2 Leaf kids.

Here's a question, would you rather have 2 A-list guys, or 5 B list?

Personally, I'd go with the 2 A list guys.

And then you rub it all over yourself, and it starts to get cold. Right?

Right?

That's what someone told me anyway.

i'll gladly take:

brannstrom, Thomson, batherson, Bernard-docker, formenton, Norris, brown, and pinto over ANYTHING the leafs can put forward in their system

not to forget two more top 10 picks this offseason.

does Ottawa suck right now.....no doubt......but they will be good again very soon.

all the while, the leafs won't be able to afford to add any depth to their team because they're spending 60% of their cap on 5 guys due to Dubas' inability to get ANYONE to put the team first and sign a team friendly deal. will be fun to see the 10 mil deal he hands out to Rielly next.

p.s. this is the exact same argument leaf fans were making for years...."our team sucks now, but our farm is good so the team will be good again really soon". only difference is that your GM gave absurd deals out to those young guys BEFORE the team won anything. unlike teams like Chicago, Pitt, LA, etc that you were trying to emulate.

all trolling aside, honest question........do you think, with their current core of players, and both current and upcoming cap issues, this team can win the cup?

when you look at all the other contending teams (Bos, Tampa, Wash, Wpg, Stl, Calgary, Islanders, etc.......all have their star players locked into team friendly, long term deals. I don't see this core of leaf players ever being a true cup contender

my eyes are great....infact they look at the standings right now and see the leafs 3 pts away from not even being a playoff team.............I would think a "cup contender" would be a little further ahead htan that.

why do all of these arguments have to conform to the rules of the asker? because the asker always needs some condition added to form the answer they want.

why can't they make a few moves? why does it have to be their current core? maybe it will only take them one move. maybe it won't take them any. they have enough talent that they could get hot at the right time and do it with this team right here.

i hope they don't because i hate so so so many of their fans but there's a lot of talent on that team and they could absolutely win a cup before their current window closes.

next time you guys want to bring up their "cap hell", try to remember that good players sign large contracts. their payroll is high because they have good players. right now.

keefe has this team playing the way they are built to play. their record is a lot better with him at the helm this year.

impossible to say if they can win or not. been a long-time since a team was built so heavily focused to play wide open on offense....that I can think of.

it'll be interesting to see what happens.

their payroll is as high as it is because they spent 40 mil on 4 forwards......there are a lot of teams I can think of who have a better top 4 forwards who aren't spending 40 mil on them.

cling to that then i guess. i just wrote you a book on the subject and you're picking one part to respond to.

that's why i don't waste my time entering the actual argument in here. the answer is obvious and you guys (i'm sorry) just let yourselves come off like idiots because you can't handle it.

just deal with it. it's easier. your own self worth is not tied into the team you r00t for. when the devils were good and the flyers were bad i can't even imagine making a fool out of myself like this arguing that the flyers have draft picks coming and the devils window can't last forever (which is how sports work, btw, one day the sens will be better than the leafs again. acting like that puts the sens in a better position right now is asinine. one day the bills will be better than the patriots too. that doesn't mean the bills have been in a better situation for the last 15 (frank)ing years.)

This thread is GOLD......it’s like arguing over who’s the best sprinter at the special olympics.

You have one team that’s basically a fringe playoff team at this point. They have a decent lineup but aren’t close to the top teams. They have a garbage prospect pool and are a cap disaster.

You have another team who has a pretty good pool of prospects, but is an abomination at the NHL level, and have the worst owner in all of professional sports signing the cheque’s (and praying they don’t bounce).

“My joke of a franchise is better”. “Noooooo, my joke of a franchise is better”.

Other than that philly fan, you guys are all delusional idiots.

actually, your post right before the one I quoted included this gem:

you're clearly implying that the leafs have a bunch of really good prospects (they do have 2-3), and then you include those 2 names with guys like Sandin and Lillegren.........CLEARLY implying that they're very good prospects.....which they very clearly aren't

so, i'll follow after you jog on

- sensarmy_11

Yes, the Leafs DO have very good prospects, and I named them in that post. Then your stupid ass quotes a different post where I named different players in an entirely different way and meaning.

Clearly jogging ain't fast enough. Run along now, champ.

Hey hockey fans,

Pronman released his top 50 drafted NHL prospects today.

1. Trevor Zegras, ANA
2. Dylan Cozens, BUF
3. Bowen Byram, COL
4. Cole Caulfield, MTL
5. Grigori Denisenko, FLA
6. Moritz Seider, DET
7. Arthur Kaliyez, LAK
8. Victor Soderstrom, ARI
9. Kirill Kaprizov, MIN
10. Rasmus Sandin, TOR
11. Nicholas Robertson, TOR
12. Owen Tippett , FLA
13. Kirill Marchenko, CLB
14. Morgan Frost, PHI
15. Alex Turcotte, LAK

I'll stop there.

LAK heavily represented in the top 50. Toronto, Florida, and LA are the only teams with 2 in the top 15.

Thoughts?

I like Robertson and he's clearly a very good prospect and he's having an incredible year in the OHL, but there's no way he should be ahead of Liljegren.

Even Bobby Mac said yesterday that Liljegren is currently the Leafs best prospect.

Also, I think Frost should be higher than he is. He's awesome.

Liljegren is having a realllly good season in the AHL this year. Theyve done a phenomenal job of develloping him.

Its not a stretch to say both sandin and liljegren will likely be full time leafs next year.

With rielly, dermott, sandin, liljegren, all locked up, and muzzin talking extension, its not a bad situation at all. Its a young blueline but with mounds of potential. Do they even need barrie? Perhaps money would be better spent on a solid stay at home guy.

The point you keep missing is that the Leafs farm has, for a couple years now, supplied capable players to the NHL, and they are still competitive somehow.

You are making the mistake that fans of EVERY team make, assuming that all your promising prospects will turn into stars. This is also the mistake SpazzD'oops made for 1000 pages or so. At the same time, you somehow won't acknowledge that the leafs has any talent, except Sandin

Yeah, let's just ignore the fact that it looks like the the leafs have the best prospect of either team... and claim your vast superiority anyway.

If you want to name your 5 or 6 guys, great, but I would say Sandin, Liljegren, Engvall, Robertson, Mikheyev, Moore are at least as impressive and most of the Leafs list has an AHL championship AND has already shown themselves to be capable NHL'ers.

What you have are lists, and we have a list that shows US with the best of the prospects. AND we have actual accomplishments at the AHL and NHL level.

You've got to do better than just naming 6 players and claiming vast superiority because you said so.

Oh, and as far as the expensive deals, yeah none of us like them, but I find it amusing that you are laughing now when you don't have any players of that calibre and when you did, last year, you couldn't re-sign them.

Now, trade us Anderson for Ceci back
