Come on prock iam not bashing ,but you as a diehard leaf fan .Dont ever wonder why the leafs with all their money always seem to hire the wrong coach or manager, sign the wrong player and always leave their fans wanting more ????The more time that passes with lack of success ,makes me wonder if MLSE is ever really in it to win it .Or to keep the fans coming back in droves hoping the next season will be the one

The haven't made the playoffs in a full 82 game season in over a decade but the seats are full and the jersey's fly off the shelves. Do they want to be a winning team? Absolutely. Do they have the resolve to do so out of sheer necessity? Absolutely not.

As it worked out, he'd be a better option than clarkson and his contract. So far anyway. But as I say, I can see why they'd want to upgrade.
- prock

I'd love to upgrade, but HE'S not the one that would be on the outside looking in. He's been one of the relatively few highlights of our season.

If Bernier plays the way he did all season, prior to the injury(nothing to suggest that level of play is over his head), and they don't have all the injuries, they get into the playoffs, and maybe even the second round.

That's it.

- Feeling Glucky?

I have a hard time seeing a team that plays defense like them putting up much of a fight even if they get in. Second round would be a pipe dream

Plus the redwings lost datsyuk and zettergerg and the blue jackets had bobrovsky hurt and you say with bernier they will be better than them? He is not the player they are

Any movement the leafs do,creates a buzz. That team is just such a money magnet, that even when they do something stupid they still get press that other teams could only dream of .Just the advertising revenue that team would generate would be astromnomical

Very good chance they would have faced off against Montreal if they hadn't collapsed.

Do you really think the Leafs beating the Habs in a 7 game series is a pipe dream?

I'm not saying it's a sure thing... but one team took Boston to game 7 last year... the other one lost to the (frank)ing Sens.

Not the same Habs team. Vanek adds a lot and even Briere in the playoffs. Also Price is now an elite goalie under Waite. Would be a great series but Habs would win.

3-2 in Season series. 3 straight I believe.

I think it's a close series like virtually every game they play. But Habs have more depth and a better goalie and coach. Habs in 7.

And Leafs have more dynamic offense.

Neither team is exactly "good" defensively... and as good as Price has been this season, he hasn't exactly been the thorn in the Leafs' side other goalies have been.

Meh they make millions ,by making the playoffs once in ten years. Why would they want to fix what isnt broken to them, and besides after the collective relief from leaf fans of finally winning it all.Do you not think there would be some sort of letdown as far profit earned after a cup win ???Everybody in toronto wants a cup and wants to be there when it happens ,as soon as that title is reached .Fan interest would not be at such a fever pitch as it now .MLSE knows this and plays it perfectly

Of course they would, they are running a business. However its not a matter of life or death for that franchise. They will generate more revenue as a non playoff team then most teams who go deep into the playoffs will.

I don't think you understand business very well.

making millions of extra revenue once every 10 years isn't better than making millions in extra revenue every year. Building a championship team builds fan base.... I know the Leafs already have one of the biggest fanbases in the NHL, but you can always grow it more.

And finally, if you're interested only in making money and don't care about the on-ice product, you follow the Ottawa model, and don't spend anywhere near the cap, letting key players go rather than re-sign them.

Habs are hottest in the NHL now. Patch, DD and Vanek are flying. 4 lines contributing.

Extended PP drought for Leafs top-two scorers: van Riemsdyk has gone 23 straight games w/o PP point.

But that doesn't mean anything. If there's more money to be had, and they aren't striving for it, they're not very good business people.
