Good to know

Those are the kind of numbers that "win" coaches the Jack Adams.

Those kind of credentials allow one to run a private, high stakes card game at the Casino Royale.

the fun part is the Sens are 4-5 with a PDO like that.
when that number starts to trend back towards 1.00 it could be bad

but for whatever reason the last few seasons the sens have been able to ride the wave pretty far with very average numbers and high PDO

But to your point, its funny how coaches ride hot goalies and high sh% to the Jack Adams then find themselves out of a job shortly after.

We will see what happens with the sens

nah. they use their counter attack, speed and skill that no other team has to bury chances on the first try.

Leafs were able to ride a super high PDO for what, 140? games, before it all came crashing down. Latter half of the pre-lockout season, the shortened season, and the first half+ of the next one.

All the time, it was "we defend and then counter attack", right up until the counter attacks stopped working, and the goaltending stumbled.

I have no doubt that Boucher's system will start to fail this season and Ottawa will start to lose because of it.

If that doesn't happen then I'll admit being wrong when the Sens fans remind me of it. Whether opposing coaches figure out how to play it or the players stop buying in, I don't see it lasting another ~70 games.

I have worked with performance measures. The first thing you want to know is what is this telling me that I don't know. You always had to be aware of managers who tried to game the system by working primarily to achieve a supplementary measure rather than primary outcome.

I understand numbers and I understand hockey. There is nothing in these numbers that tells me why Pittsburgh won the Stanley Cup. Nothing that explains why LA Kings missed the playoffs.

If you look at the top 10 power ranked teams on the TSN rankings, 1/2 have a negative possession number. I do not know this for certain, but I believe that Ottawa wins the majority of games where they have a negative possession number and loses most games where they have a positive possession number.

Last week on Sirius I heard a fabulous piece where they were comparing fast strike offences with the LA King type down low possession cycle.

I honestly don't know if there is a coaching transition taking place. I do know at the end of Saturday night Mike Babcock said the Leafs lost because they got outworked. Hard to measure heart.

Boucher has a history of short life span as his teams get sick of going 100% all game every game and they start to wear down.

Instead of just saying stuff can you post the actual data?

Its not hard.

and are these the "7-Eleven Power Rankings" you are talking about?

The Lightning entered 2017-18 as the No. 1 team in TSN's 7-Eleven Power Rankings and three weeks later they’re back on top, according to consensus rankings formulated by the TSN Power Ranking panel of Ray Ferraro, Jeff O'Neill, Jamie McLennan, Craig Button and Darren Dreger.

So, understanding that Marleau and the LEafs scoring will tail off, we are looking at what 25 goals?

What an exciting team the Sens. They are on pace to set an all-time record for overtime losses. They have 4 in 9 games - on pace for 36 this year. Next highest team in the NHL has 2.

seriously though.

He doesnt understand why a subjective made up power ranking with 8 games of info does not align perfectly with a stat

I wonder if we will see mass suicides, if, as I expect, the Leafs tank like Columbus did a few years ago when their rookies had played so well the previous year.
