The playoff run of the Ottawa Senators was infamous for its struggle to sell out games. Now it has come out that the Sens are among the teams whose attendance has dropped the most over 10 years.
The Ottawa Senators ranked as the team with the third biggest drop off in attendance over the last 10 years. Only dropping less than the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche this is certainly a cause for concern. The Sens’ attendance has dropped by 13.6% over the last 10 years. A team that sold out every game ten years ago is now on average only selling to 87.4% of capacity. What has happened in Ottawa to cause such a drop in fan interest?

Mediocrity
Part of the reason for the dropping of attendance can be attributed to the consistent mediocrity of a team that used to be so dominant. In the early and mid-2000s the Sens were one of the best teams in the league. However, since then the Sens have struggled the string together playoff appearances. Although this cannot be the only reason for decreasing attendance as the Sens had a fantastic playoff run this year but didn’t sell out every game.

When you can't question the on ice success of the Senators this past season, reaching the ECFs and coming within in one goal, in double-overtime, of reaching their second appearance in the SCFs in 10 years ................ you have to attack anything and everything else.

This just proves that Senators have been the better of the two teams in Ontario for well over the past decade.

So with every post the trollonto fans make about, attendance, prospects or whatever........ just know that you're acknowledging the dominance the Senators have had over the leafs for these past 13 or so seasons.

Keep them coming, as it just makes, us Senator fans, our day!

thank you.

we can't question the on ice "success"??

sure we can it's easy.

only playoff team with negative goal differential.
fortunate boost with shootout points
career year for goaltender at age 36
playing teams missing several key players

the list goes on.

moving forward we have
stupid decisions leading to loss of first pairing dman that handles the defensive work for that pairing
terrible prospects.
habitually trading away draft picks
very old team
budget owner.

it's not that hard at all to question what's going on there. it's a disaster.

Very interesting.

I wonder if a new buyer could be enticed on the premise the franchise would move to a hockey market?

Nucks fans and Sens fans would have a much easier time had their team actually achieved something.

Quick question. Off the top of your head name the two losing semi finalists at the 1966 World Cup, the guy who finished 4th at the 2004 Olympics in the 100 metre Sprint and the losing semi finalists at Wimbledon (womens) in 2010?

kind of comical. rips jays after back to back conference finals. praises own team after makes one conference final in a league that has a format that the team wouldn't have made the playoffs in the MLB, on the backs of some decimated teams, and still can't advance.

You lost the arguement in your first sentence.

We CAN and DO question the on ice success. We know the Sens played two teams icing half-AHL defenses, including the Pens missing Letang. We know the Pens were also missing their starting goalie for half the series and Crosby was nowhere near himself for at least the first 4 games, with a concussion.

These are FACTS, and without this good fortune, a team that was scored on more than it scored and who got too many points in the skill-competition doesn't make it out of the first round.

Everyone except Sens fans acknowledges this.

... you forgot ripping the team in a league in which their pathetic town doesn't warrant passing consideration to even have a team.

Blah blah blah ............. whatever .......... still came within one goal of advancing to the SCFs for the second time in 10 years .............. closer than the leafs have been in over fifty years.

Still love the fact that you can't handle the fact that the Sens advances so far this past season

keep them coming ............... it just proves how rattled all you trollonto fans were by the Senators deep playoff run.

I agree. Most of them, except for Prock, seem to be lost. Not sure I would use the term rattled. It does not seem to have any real meaning. Need to accept that the Leaf echo chamber creates a chorus where everyone learns to sing the same tune. They learn and practice a blue harmony that they actually come to believe despite any evidence of substance to the idea. Soon, they are all telling each other they are special.

Blue harmony was full throated a few years ago when Leaf fans came on this thread in triumphal celebration of game 7 against the Bruins. Most of you will remember their feeble, whimpering fold. I felt sorry for some of them at the time. Despite their hubris of premature exclamation, it was apparent that the depth of wound was so deep that everyone acceded to the idea that a full and comprehensive rebuild was warranted.

I fear a little premature exclamation is being mixed into our evaluation of blue harmony this summer.
