though it's not like ottawa has shown that they have the ability to make good draft selections like that anyway

- daeth

Seriously right.......guys like Karlsson, stone, Hoffman.....awful.

Remind us again how the Leafs have drafted with pick outside the top 10...

Really have Leafed the draft in recent years. Either traded players they drafted, drafted busts or traded the picks.

The coveted 9th place spot hasn't helped them unleaf their picks either.

not sure. but st Louis sure is glad you traded for him.
- prock

Don't forget, St Louis had to wait and extra two years for him to finish out his KHL Contract before he became available to them .......... something Ottawa was not prepared to do .......... but I've explained this to you before, right.

Do you remember the trade for Tom Kurvers?

Or the one for Andrew Raycroft?

So Ottawa didn't want to wait 2 years for a prospect? Pretty stupid if you ask me.

Hmmm the Raycroft one...I kind of remember that. Wasn't that around when that team, forget who they are now, chose Redden over Chara?

If you're going to cry on my shoulder at least wipe your snot. Horrible for the Sens to let Chara go just to secure Redden. I can see why you're upset.

"I wanted to stay here," Chara told the Sun. "I'm very disappointed. I thought Ottawa would be really aggressive and they would really show it. In the last nine days before July 1st, we never received a phone call. Myself and (agent) Matt (Keator) were just sitting there and making all the calls. We told them, 'Let's talk and let's negotiate.' They said:' 'Six million, you sign it or we're going to go the other way.' They did. They chose Wade (Redden). That's great. He's an unbelievable player and a great guy. He's a good leader and they made the right decision. They are saying that Wade took less to stay in Ottawa, but we both got offered $6 million and he didn't take less because he took $6.5 million."

Excuse fail.

I think had they seen Niedermayer play in the NHL they might have considered keeping him over Kurvers. This was the early 90s Leafs though so maybe not.

How many points does Ryan have compared to Silfverberg? A Brassard to Zibby? So surprised. I mean Tarasenko and Chara suck. Sure.

Totally makes Sens to bring up a 20 plus year old trade because Tarasenko is better than Turris.

Again, that is Chara and his agents version of what transpired. Chara was offered the same contract as Redden....... the Senators were prepared to sign both players, but Chara demanded the Team Captaincy be taken from Alfredsson and given to him .............. a point they neglected to include in the article you posted, and that was the never going to happen, and the had a better ( The Captaincy and a five-year, $37.5M) offer from the Bruins in their back-pocket.

Chara came up after Kurvers to be fair. I'm all for keeping it current. But it's not enough ammo for the Sens since they're being run by Eugene Ballard these days and the Leafs are being run properly.

Current Leafs management, yes. JFJ? No clue. I have heard that he was forced to "win now" by ownership rather than rebuild like he wanted at the time though so maybe he wasn't given a fair chance as GM. I think Murray would understand the position he was in quite well.
