bad budget management. Happy?

and cap matters to every team. It still diminshes the value of a player, or makes them unmoveable.

Ticket prices are determined by supply and demand. There is literally no link to player salaries at all. Zero.

if there were, the Sens would have had rock bottom ticket prices for most of their franchise's existence.

- prock

Ticket sales is, by far, the number one revenue stream for NHL teams. And when you've miss manged your franchise to the point where (in the leafs case for next season) you're paying 13 MILLION to players who will never set foot on the ice, for whatever reason, this cost is passed onto the fans who buy the tickets.

And yes, supply and demand in toronto is definitely a factor that ownership can use to sweep 13 MILLION under the rug, as the well will never run dry ................. unless the NHL expands into the GTA in the future.

Please explain??Did you not think we needed a defenseman??Did we not get a decent one without blowing player assets??Did Toronto use their money ,to make Phanuef,s contract easier for us to take??Does Ottawa have cap issues with him now and moving forward ??This deal made sense ,otherwise Ottawa doesnt do it .You guys already understand for us to take on that kind of contract ,it would have been discussed by management for months prior .Which it was ,we had been discussing him with you guys for 9 weeks before we made the deal

still do.

?Did we not get a decent one without blowing player assets??
- top shelf 15

depends on your definition of decent. but yes, they did blow player assets, and didn't get one back in return.

?Did Toronto use their money ,to make Phanuef,s contract easier for us to take??
- top shelf 15

easier for one year. Not so easy after that. Ottawa chewed up something like 25 million in cap space and/or budget over 5 years with this move.

Does Ottawa have cap issues with him now and moving forward
- top shelf 15

Ottawa has budget issues, they're worse than they were before Phaneuf, and they'll only continue to get worse with him going forward.

This deal made sense ,otherwise Ottawa doesnt do it .You guys already understand for us to take on that kind of contract ,it would have been discussed by management for months prior .Which it was ,we had been discussing him with you guys for 9 weeks before we made the deal

so I guess what you're saying is the Senators never make any bad decisions? Because, what you're saying could apply to everything. But, i think you know, Ottawa has made loooots of bad decisions in recent years.

Please refer to our cap payroll chart, and keep in mind with expansion coming we are likely to lose Methot .Having Phaneuf over some green kid ,is a better thing for us .We dont need to worry about what he makes because part of his hit will always be absorbed with players we should be replacing with younger cheaper versions

Sois calme.

Leaf fans are just hyper agitated over the fact that Kessel is about to win the Conn Smyth.

All the talk is about Phaneuf is merely a distraction away from the Leaf's awkwardness around Kessel's huge success.

Phaneuf will be very strong with Ceci next and Leaf fans will search desperately to find something else they can provide a distraction from the world of hurt they are going to absorb next year.

Everyone needs to remember that the Leafs have only succeeded well at one thing and that is failing. They have be monstrously accomplished in failing. The collapse in Boston a couple of years ago actually fits the overused epic category.

The only time the Leafs have made the playoffs in ten years turns out to be the biggest collapse ever. Next year will likely not be any better. And, you will still have the blue and white chorus singing in unison that "your nearly as bad as we are."

Murray's best trade of his career was to move up in the draft to get Kerlsson. I think the trade for Colin White is also going to be very strong. The Turris trade was good. Not a fan of the Ryan trade. He did really good in unloading Heatley.

He cleaned house on the Phaneuf deal and that has very good long term opportunities for the Sens. The Spezza trade is a wash. They did not get a lot back. But they avoided taking on a long term contract with a declining asset.

screw that. Agitated? I thought Kessel got a bad rap, had a bit of a sense of humour, and I'd be happy to see him win it. He's one of the best complementary players out there, but the Leafs have no Crosby, Malkin, or Letang, so they're better off with what they got. Everybody wins as far as I'm concerned.

Why would Phaneuf be somehow better than he has been for a few years now? I mean, I don't think he's terrible like some do, but he's also not really very good, and not nearly good enough to justify his cap hit/salary.

He's definitely not good enough to make the Sens a better team either. He didn't make the Leafs better, he didn't make the Flamers better before that, he didn't make the Sens better at the end of this season, and he won't going forward. It's a little silly to think he will.

Curios. I'm disappointed. We know that you know better. Phaneuf will be playing a #4 in Ottawa. The only expectation on him is that he provide strong support for Ceci's development. In addition, Chabot is coming forward on a fast track and is going to need support as well. Phaneuf looked really good at the end of the season. Karlsson played phenomenal hockey that got even better when Phaneuf arrived. I think we are going to have to wait to see the full impact. But the initial indications are positive all around.

So, why do you think the media is pushing this story? Surely your not suggesting that there is some inherent bias by the media against the Leafs? Perhaps you are just overly sensitive on the subject.

cap hit matters..of course it (frank)ing does...its actually one of the most important things when building a winning team.. allocating the proper dollars ..if you are overpaying Dion to provide you what a 2 or 3 million dollar player can...then you cant pay another player what they deserve..maybe you then lose out on an elite forward.

that has been one of the Leafs biggest problems... and they dumped one of them on the Sens

- senstroll

That's not Melnyk's intention though.
