A friend of mine insists GNR would be as legendary as the Rolling Stones if Axl had been the icon that died in the 90s instead of Cobain. Likewise, I guess that means Cobain would be the fat guy in the yellow trench coat forgetting the lines to his songs today.

i definitely agree that it could only add to their legacy if axl died or just went away and didn't tarnish the whole thing as badly as he has.

i think it's a bit of a stretch to say they'd be as legendary as the rolling (frank)ing stones but that could just be hyperbole your buddy piles on to help emphasize his point. but i agree with the premise.
