It is, and it's NOT Billy Joel for a change.
Sorry, Forever, I like him too, but enough already.

- jtswinehart

Well, JT, when enough other people start posting, the ratio of Joel songs will be less... and they won't be sticking out like a sore thumb -- so to speak -- In the meantime, I am on a crusade to see just how long I can post a different Joel song that I find exceptional... The way I see it, I surely can make it until the Flyers' training camp, and beyond.

If it is annoying even the fans of The Piano Man, I suppose I can cease and be assured that I could have completed my task w/o any sweat whatsoever.

After Monkey's entry today, I am considering submitting, 'Louie Louie'... if I could find a place that has deciphered the actual lyrics to the song.

Maybe, I'll start posting songs that will stick in people's minds for the entire day and drive them nutz.

As it is, I am happy that I was able to annoy Egg for these many days.

Forever, I'm sure you could post till the next faceoff, but until then here's a little diddy that should irritate most anyone:

I know a ditty nutty as a fruitcake
Goofy as a goon and silly as a loon
Some call it pretty, others call it crazy
But they all sing this tune:

Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
Yes! Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?

If the words sound queer and funny to your ear, a little bit jumbled and jivey
Sing "Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy"

Oh! Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you-oo?
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?

Camptown races

The Campptown ladies sing this song,
Doo-da, Doo-da
The Camptown racetrack's five miles long
Oh, de doo-da day

Goin' to run all night
Goin' to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray

Oh, the long tailed filly and the big black horse,
Doo-da, doo-da
Come to a mud hole and they all cut across,
Oh, de doo-da day

Goin' to run all night
Goin' to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray

I went down there with my hat caved in,
Doo-da, doo-da
I came back home with a pocket full of tin
Oh, de doo-da day

Goin' to run all night
Goin' to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray

Stewball - NOT by Billy Joel

Oh Stewball was a racehorse, and I wish he were mine.
He never drank water, he always drank wine.

His bridle was silver, his mane it was gold.
And the worth of his saddle has never been told.

Oh the fairgrounds were crowded, and Stewball was there
But the betting was heavy on the bay and the mare.

And a-way up yonder, ahead of them all,
Came a-prancin' and a-dancin' my noble Stewball.

I bet on the grey mare, I bet on the bay
If I'd have bet on ol' Stewball, I'd be a free man today.

Oh the hoot owl, she hollers, and the turtle dove moans.
I'm a poor boy in trouble, I'm a long way from home.

Oh Stewball was a racehorse, and I wish he were mine.
He never drank water,he always drank wine.

Sorry, I can't resist posting another Beck great!

Beck - Broken Drum (Boards of Canada Remix)

I see you there
Your long black hair
Your eyes just stare
Your mind is turning

You know I'll laugh
And I won't take it back
I've seen your eyes
I know what your thinking

And one by one
We'll shoot our guns
We'll have our fun
Don't ever doubt it

And when I say
Fare thee well
My only friend
Oh how the days go

Your setting sun
Your broken drum
Your little drugs

I'll never forget you

Never forget you

Imagine - John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing stretching every nerve
Had to listen had no choice
I did not believe the information
(I) just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom boom boom
"Son," he said "Grab your things,
I've come to take you home."

To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut
So I went from day to day
Tho' my life was in a rut
"Till I thought of what I'd say
Which connection I should cut
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
(Back home.)

When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free
Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me
Today I don't need a replacement
I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" I said "You can keep my things,
they've come to take me home."

Sorry guys ... just can't stop.
As you can see I'm still stuck in the 70's progressive music era ...

The Musical Box - Genesis

Play me Old King Cole
That I may join with you
All your hearts now seem so far from me
It hardly seems to matter now

And the nurse will tell you lies
Of a kingdom beyond the skies
But I am lost within this half-world
It hardly seems to matter now

Play me my song
Here it comes again
Play me my song
Here it comes again

Just a little bit
Just a little bit more time
Time left to live out my life

Play me my song
Here it comes again
Play me my song
Here it comes again

Old King Cole was a merry old soul
And a merry old soul was he
So he called for his pipe
And he called for his bowl
And he called for his fiddlers three

The clock, tick tock
On the mantelpiece
And I want
And I feel
And I know
And I touch
The wall

She's a lady, she's got time
Brush back your hair
And let me get to know your face

She's a lady, she is mine
Brush back your hair
And let me get to know your flesh

I've been waiting here for so long
And all the time that passed me by
It doesn't seem to matter now

You stand there with your fixed expression
Casting doubt on all I have to say
Why don't you touch me, touch me
Why don't you touch me, touch me
Touch me now, now, now, now, now
Now, now, now, now, now
Now, now, now, now, now
Now, now, now, now, now ...

Good taste in music though. That was such a great time for music, see what I have to grow up to? Fitty cent and all those gangstas have ruined popular music for me . Seems like every day there was a great band coming out back then, but now good bands are hard to come by.

Thanks ... yes the 70's were a special time for music (for me at least).
I agree with you that cRAP has redefined the music world but in a bad way IMHO.

Back then you had to have talent to get known ... today we are stuck with Britney and gangsta' morons

As we all know, the record companies don't care about music itself but more about the $$$ ... while people keep buying this junk they'll keep making it. In the meantime I'll keep listening to my old favorites.

Can't for wait tomorrow .. I'll try to post a good one (and only one) ...

It's funny because half of my music is modern stuff and half is stuff my parents listened to It's not necessarily a bad thing because the music is good, I just find it funny. This rap stuff I can't stand at all, but unfortunately that's the "it" thing right now

Don't get me wrong ... there is new music coming out that is definitively worth listening to but, unfortunately, there is not as much (quantity) new worthwhile stuff as back then.

Taste in music is a very personal matter and I am definitively not one who would judge or criticize yours. What I love about this thread is that we get to discover artists that we didn`t even know existed.

Hehehe ...I've know about Billy Joel for quite a while ... really great artist.

He has a few songs that I really enjoy but, as I said before, I gravitate (if that's a word) more towards progressive music ... to each his/her own.

How about some Dylan?

Times They Are A Changing - Bob Dylan

Come gather round people wherever you roam
And admit that the waters around you have grown
And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth saving
Then you'd better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone
For the times, they are a changing

Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pens
And keep your eyes open, the chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon, the wheel's still in spin
And there's no telling who that it's naming
Oh the loser will be later to win
For the times, they are a changing

Come senators, congressmen, please head the call
Don't stand in the doorway, don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt will be her that has stalled
The battle outside ragging will soon shake your windows
And rattle your hall
For the times, they are a changing

Come mothers and fathers all over this land
And don't criticize what you can't understand
Your sons and your daughter are beyond your command
Your old role is rapidly aging
Please get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand
For the times they are a changing

The line, it is drawn, the curse, it is cast
The slow one will later be fast
And the present now will soon be the past
The order is rapidly fading
The first one now will later be last
For the times, they are a changing

Audioslave - "Cochise"

Well I been watchin’
While you been coughin'
I’ve been drinking life
While you been nauseous
And so I drink to health
While you kill yourself
And I got just one thing
That I can offer

Go and save yourself
Take it out on me
Go and and save yourself
Take it out on me yeah

Well I’m not a martyr
I’m not a prophet
And I won’t preach to you
But heres a caution
You better understand
That I won’t hold your hand
But if it helps you mend
Then I won’t stop it

Go and save yourself
Take it out on me
Go and save yourself
Take it out on me
Go and save yourself
Take it out on me
Go and save yourself
Take it out on me yeah

Go if you want
And I’ll see you in the bottom
Where you crawl
On my skin
And put the blame on me
So you don’t feel a thing

Go and save yourself
Take it out on me
Go and save yourself
Take it out on me
Go and save yourself
Take it out on me
Go and save yourself
