Pride (in The Name Of Love) - U2

One man come in the name of love
One man come and go
One man come, he to justify
One man to overthrow

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed on an empty beach.
One man betrayed with a kiss

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

(nobody like you...)

Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love...

Every Breath I take - Gene Pitney

(dip-dip, dooba bop bop) (dip-dip, dooba bop bop)

I hardly ever thank the stars above
For sending me your very precious love
You never hear me say a prayer
Of thanks to someone 'way up there
Who gave me such a lucky *break*

Oh, no, darling
Only with ev'ry breath I take

And every time we have to be apart
I hardly ever find you in my heart
And when it comes to thinking of
The thought of losing all your love
I never worry how my heart would ache

Oh, no, darling
Only with ev'ry breath I *take*
Only with ev'ry little step I *make*
Only with ev'ry little beat of my *heart*
And ev'ry single minute I'm *awake*

Oh, no, darling
Only with ev'ry breath I *take*
Only with ev'ry little step I *make*
Only with ev'ry little beat of my *heart*
And ev'ry single minute I'm awake

Oh-aah, ev'ry little breath I take
Ev'ry little step I *make*
Ah, ah, ah, ah, uh, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ev'ry breath I take

(dip-dip, dooba bop bop) (dip-dip, dooba bop bop)'s to end

Gene Pitney, you really got that out of the back of the closet.

Here's another oldie but a REAL GOODIE from a one hit wonder:

Sunshine
Jonathan Edwards

sunshine go away today
i don't feel much like dancin
some mans gone he's tried to run my life
i don't know what he's askin
well he tells me i'd better get in line
i can't hear what he's sayin
when i grow up i'm gonna make it mine
these ain't dues i've been payin

well how much does it cost
i'll buy it
the time is all we've lost
i'll try it
he can't even run his own life
i'll damned if he'll run mine...(sunshine)

sunshine go away today
i don't feel much like dancin
some man's gone he's tried to run my life
i don't know what he's askin

working starts to make me wonder
where fruits of what i do are goin
he says in love and war all is fair
but he's got cards he ain't showin

well how much does it cost
i'll buy it
the time is all we've lost
i'll try it
he can't even run his own life
i'll damned if he'll run mine...(sunshine)

sunshine come on back another day
i promise you i'll be singin
this whole world she's gonna turn around
brand new bells will be ringin

We passed upon the stair, we spoke in was and when
Although I wasn't there, he said I was his friend
Which came as a surprise, I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone, a long long time ago

Oh no, not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With The Man Who Sold The World

I laughed and shook his hand, and made my way back home
I searched a foreign land, for years and years I roamed
I gazed a gazeless stare, we walked a million hills
I must have died alone, a long long time ago

Who knows? Not me
I never lost control
You're face to face
With the Man who Sold the World

Who knows? not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With the Man who Sold the World

Thanks... that was great

I'm a Satchmo fan -- Don't really know why I haven't submitted any of his songs here -- any way, I also love 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'.

A few things that you may or may not find interesting... One amazing trivia item, one personal thought... and one that is both.

* Over the Rainbow was orginally to be cut out of *The Wizard of Oz* -- Due to time restraints and it's being too far over children's heads -- A last minute reprieve saved it; The rest is history... I could not even imagine losing that wonderful song forever.

* I thought it was such a wonderful touch when 'Over the Rainbow' was used as backgroud music when Meg Ryan's character found out that Tom Hank's charater was her e-pen pal... Totally fitting, IMHO.

* 'Wonderful World' was Louis' last recorded song... I believe that the legend is, as I recall it, he finished it and went home, and soon after, died... Somehow I can honestly see it as Satchmo's good bye thoughts to us.

IMHO, this is why music is so wonderful... It digs out the deepest feelings from our souls and allows us to share them.

Dave Chappelle
I wrote this song a long time ago.

Listen close, as life turns its pages
Makaveli here, kickin' rhymes for the ages
Seen things in stages, wise words spoken by sages
From SkyTel to BlackBerry pages
Your crew don't phase us, we'll make you bustas pay us
Run up in your spot like CJ from San Andreas

I wrote this song a long time ago
A real long time ago
Feel me!
I wrote this song a long time ago
It was the dopest song I ever wrote... in '94

What can a N word do when half the people voted for George W.
It's a female dog, Frank George W. -- can't be true --
I wanna choke him, because he's a snitch
I'm talking about George W. Smith
From city council, he ran in '93
Out in Oakland, you probably didn't hear about him

I wrote this song a long time ago
A real long time ago
Way before Slim Shady was in demand
Way before we dropped baloney on Afghanistan
I wrote this song in '94

How am I doin' this?
Look around the club, see everyone in the place
Showing 'Pac love got a smile on my face
The girl in the miniskirt has bad taste
Because her shirt don't match
And there's a puddin' stain on the back
What the Frank is that?
It might be doo-doo

And you in the back, you ain't {poop}
You bought a gin and tonic but you didn't even tip
And if you hit the table one more time then the record might skip
Might skip... I told you, stop hittin' the table

Tupac Shakur
I wrote this rhyme in 1994
I'm not alive!
Thug life!
Dave Chappelle, that ain't your wife
A married man, you've got two kids
Go home!

I wrote this song a long time ago
A real long time ago
Way before Beanie Sigel had to do a bid
Way before Dave Chappelle had two kids
No friends, and no future

breaking up is hard to do

Don't take your love away from me
Don't you leave my heart in misery
'If you go then I'll be blue
'Cause breaking up is hard to do

Re-mem-ber when you held me tight
And you kissed me all through the night
Think of all that we've been through
And breaking up is hard to do

They say that breaking up is hard to do
Now I know I know that it's true
Don't say that this is the end
Instead of breaking up I wish that we were making up again

I beg of you
Don't say goodbye
Can't we give our love another try?
Come on baby, let's start anew
'Cause breaking up is hard to do

They say that breaking up is hard to do
Now I know I know that it's true
Don't say that this is the end
Instead of breaking up I wish that we were making up again

I beg of you
Don't say goodbye
Can't we give our love another try?
Come on baby, let's start anew
Since breaking up is hard to do

Billy Joel sings Bob Dylan

Come gather round people wherever you may roam
Admit that the waters around you have grown
Admit that soon you'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is a savin
Well you better start swimmin or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a changing

Come writers and critics who prophesy with your pen
Keep your eyes wide the chance won't come again
Don't speak too soon for the wheels still in spin
And there's no tellin who that it's namin
For the loser now will be later to win
For the times, they are a changing

Come sailors and congressman please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway, don't blacken the hall
For he who has lost is he who has all
There's a storm outside and it's ragin'
It'll soon shake your windows, it'll rattle your walls
For the times, they are a changing

It'll soon shake your windows and it'll rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'

Come mothers and fathers throughout the land
Don't criticise what you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command
And your old road is rapidly agin'
So get outta here or if you can lend a hand

For the times they are a-changin'

Verse 1

For the times they are a-changin'...

Back In The USSR - Billy Joel covering The Beatles

Flew in from Miami Beach BOAC
Didn't get to bed last night
Oh, the way the paper bag was on my knee
Man, I had a dreadful flight
I'm back in the USSR
You don't know how lucky you are, boy
Back in the USSR, yeah

Been away so long I hardly knew the place
Gee, it's good to be back home
Leave it till tomorrow to unpack my case
Honey disconnect the phone
I'm back in the USSR
You don't know how lucky you are, boy
Back in the US
Back in the US
Back in the USSR

Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the west behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
They Georgia's always on my my my my my my my my my mind
Oh, come on
Hu Hey Hu, hey, ah, yeah
yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm back in the USSR
You don't know how lucky you are, boys
Back in the USSR

Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the west behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
They Georgia's always on my my my my my my my my my mind

Oh, show me round your snow peaked
mountain way down south
Take me to you daddy's farm
Let me hear you balalaika's ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm
I'm back in the USSR
Hey, You don't know how lucky you are, boy
Back in the USSR
Oh, let me tell you honey

BTW: John, eh.

EDIT: I got the answer... and more; the guy is Peter Cincotti.

Rene is that cute young redhead from the sitcom, *Still Standing*... she was 14 years old when it was recorded, peter was also in his teens... I find it hard to believe that Renee is that good at that age. I heard her before, but I'm much more impressed with this.

BTW: Do you remember that Neil had a version out with his daughter also... It was a hit too, if I recall it correctly.

Well there's been an accident. (Calm down.)
There's been an accident, breathe.
In then out calm down. (In then out calm down.)
Breath in then out calm down. (In then out calm...)

We can't go back.
Can't go back.
Can't go back, we can't...
We can't go back.
Can't go back.
Can't go back, we can't...

(Breath in then out calm down.)

But would you do it again, again?
And count backwards from ten.
(Look I don't make those mistakes no more.)
Sometimes I swear I can see straight through you.

Just concentrate, control.
But would you do it again?

We can't go back.
Can't go back.
Can't go back, we can't...
We can't go back.
Can't go back.
Can't go back, we can't...

We can't go back.
Can't go back.
Can't go back, we can't...
We can't go back.
Can't go back.

Murder, oh, murder where have you been?
Murder, oh, murder where have you been?
Murder, oh, murder where have you been?
Murder, oh, murder where have you been?
Murder, oh, murder where have you been?
Murder, oh, murder where have you been?

We can't go back.
Can't go back.
Can't go back, we can't...
We can't go back.
Can't go back.
Can't go back, we can't...
We can't go back.
Can't go back.
Can't go back, we can't...
(Feels like anything anything, anything anything.)
We can't go back.

This song was originally done by The Monkees, later to be re-done by several groups including Smashmouth for one of the Shrek movies.

I'm a Believer
The Monkees

I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
Oh, love was out to get me (duh-duh, duh-duh)
That's the way it seems (duh-duh, duh-duh)
Disappointment haunted all my dreams.

Then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer.
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind.
I'm in love (oh, ah)
I'm a believer,
I couldn't leave her if I tried

I thought love was more or less a given thing
Seems the more I gave the less I got.
Oh, what's the use in trying (duh-duh, duh-duh)
All you get is pain (duh-duh, duh-duh)
When I needed sunshine I got rain

Chorus

Oh, love was out to get me (duh-duh, duh-duh)
That's the way it seems (duh-duh, duh-duh)
Disappointment haunted all my dreams

Chorus

Yes I saw her face,
Now I'm a believer.
No not a trace
