Agree, Makar is by far the current best dman in the league, followed closely by a group that includes Hughes, Dahlin, Werenski & Hedman. - Pacificgem
Hughes stands about a half-step ahead of Makar and Heiskanen, then there is another half step to the group that includes Werenski, Morrissey, Hedman, etc.
You watch them both play and they are amazing in their own ways, however statistics heavily favour Hughes over Makar over the last 2 years. |

They're both awesome, no question, I just like Makar a little better because he's a bit heavier and stronger. |

An inch and a half + 7 pounds doesn't tip the scales too much for me to be honest. Neither one of them is out there to hit people |

Harley is definitely putting himself into the conversation, and he's only 23 years old. Benning took Podkolzin over him - LOL. Good American kid that Harley!
Josi is washed, he's 35 years old and on the decline. - Pacificgem
You probably would have taken Cam York over Harley |

No, but you have to defend when you don't have the puck, it's kind of an important task for a dman. |

Right, which Hughes does brilliantly through positioning and stick work, hitting someone isn't the only way to get the puck away.
"He's the better defender" isn't a good argument in favour of Makar, as the possession stats and shot share show he is playing without the puck more often than not when the best players on his team aren't out there. Hughes numbers are all positive no matter who is out there, though obviously Hronek provides a bump compared to Myers. |

Hughes was much better at the "box out" the past couple seasons, but he's still physically weak, like 70 year old 135 pound Vantel. That's his one weakness, he's not strong, but when you have the puck on your stick for 85% of the time you're on the ice, it kinda makes it a small weakness, but still a weakness. |

This makes no sense, either you would take York over Harley or you don't, where you are picking has no bearing on who you prefer back then. |

I hope the Panthers can close it out tonight and then McDavid signs with Florida as a UFA next summer (2026). |

If you don’t think Hughes defends when he doesn’t have the puck yours and Reubys hockey credibility goes out the window.
I think in any given year either player is just as good as the other and either player is a little better than the other. |

I can't see why any player would ever want the stink of that franchise on them. Just gross and disgusting. |

Pretty simple Reuby, if I was picking 10th OA for the Canucks I wouldn't have taken either, I would've taken Boldy. I'm sure Booner can look back and attest to that.
If I was picking 14th for the Flyers in 2019, I would've probably taken the kid with the highest scoring potential because they needed scoring at that time. They already had Sanheim, Gostibehere, Provorov and Hagg, all 25 yrs old or younger, on defense. |

Oh geez, here we go. I didn't say he couldn't defend, I said I think Makar can do it better because he's stronger. That being said, Quinn Hughes has been much better at it the past two seasons. It was a documented weakness of his as a slight kid when he came into the league. |

Arguing about who is better, Hughes or Makar is a waste of time. Both are incredible so who cares.
Colorado isn't trading Makar because they have Mckinnon and a great team around them. Huge difference in team positions. The Canucks have to consider trading Hughes because if he isn't signed by July 2026 he has to be dealt. No way you can let him walk. What do the Canucks have to offer him? You cant change someones mind with just cash when they can get the same cash anywhere. |

Makar's weakness is having to play without Mackinnon, which he has to do like 40% of the time |

They are a putrid stain on the NHL. A cesspool of an organization. - Danny Bomber
They're also looking like a potential dynasty. Their core has many years still in it and they've proven to be a highly thought of destination for players in the last couple years.
The way they play is unreal. Max effort all game long and just bullying teams until they break |

So where is Demko going?
Can't let Silovs walk on waivers, he is developed, cost controlled and Lanky has a no movement. |

Cool, you keep cheering for a rapey team.
They are a disgusting franchise and as a Canuck fan, you should be embarrassed defending them. Gross. - Danny Bomber
I'm not cheering for anyone, don't get your panties twisted.
It is ironic to call them rapey when Edmonton's GM is famous for covering up rape |
