Draft and develop. Abby is looking great. Hopefully that helps a couple realize the step that needs to be taken to be an everyday NHLer.
- manvanfan

Unless they (Canucks) sell off any players worth anything, they'll be stuck in that muddy middle ground forever. You can't win without building a core through the draft and then start making some magnificent trades.

If They wanna move up from 20th to our spot at 15 and select back to back that would interesting.

I wonder what the cost would realistically be?

Taking Cole Sillenger off their hands would be amazing

- Brooks_Light

Cams suggesting they package their 14th & 20th picks to move into the top ten, is what I'm assuming.

So many Canucks fans are so damaged they just assume the worst will always happen even when all evidence points to the opposite.

It's such a waste of time to discuss trading the best player in franchise history in his prime

From Drance at "The Athletic".

I’m sure JR called Drance and told him they are fine with Chytil as the 2C. The only people stupider than our local media are the fans that believe a word out of their ill informed mouths

Not true at all - Florida just won with Barkov, Lundell and Ekblad as their ONLY drafted players. Lots of ways to build a winner.

But I assume you mean we have to stop trading 1st and 2nd rounders, which I 100% agree with.

Abby are clearly developing players the right way - so lets continue to feed the system.

They've apparently made an offer for Rossi, though it was rejected... I think – despite his size – he'd be a great addition to the team.

There was an article on the Athletic about how Zito bucked the trend and basically built the team through trades and free agents. Vegas is another example of that kind of management (though slightly different)

Crazy stats:

Abby have 5 regulation losses in their last 40 games.

31-5-4 in their last 40

Ended the year on a 16-1-1 run.

Karlsson has been a beast - clutch goals, excellent around the net, is in every scrum I'd like to see him get 50-60 games instead of say Aman or PDG.

Start with trading Garland. Players like him don't win cups.

Why is that? He was just a star for team US while they won the WC

Zito walked into a team that was well on their way. But they/he have made some significant moves in their rise to back2backs.

For me, Carolina is the high watermark - they consistently focus on acquiring picks, no matter where they are in the standings and have an incredible pipe line to show - I've been openly jealous of how they run their ORG for years now.

It's no wonder they consistently make it to the 2nd or 3rd round - but they cant seem to get over the hump.

Yes, they have to stop trading 1st and 2nd rounders, full stop!! Also, if you just look from a surface level at how the Panthers built their core, you won't see the moves made to get to where they got, and a lot of it came from trading guys they drafted. Everything comes back to drafting well, and often.

Huberdeau was drafted 3rd overall by the Panthers, Weegar drafted late but also by the Panthers, both traded for Tkachuk. They don't get Tkachuk without trading Huberdeau who just came off of a 115 point year.

Trocheck drafted by the Panthers, traded for a package that included Eetu Luostarinen, who's now 25 years old and now has two Cup rings. Played a pivotal part in their wins.

Bennett was acquired for Emil Heineman and a 2nd round pick in 2022, Heineman was a 2nd round pick for the Panthers.

So, yes, they built their team through trades and free agency but those trades were made because they had a lot of draft capital and good players from their own drafting.

From what I read Minny isn't that interested in futures, but if they don't trade Rossi by July 1st they open themselves up to offer sheets that will only be futures. I think the Canucks will get it done before then.
