Thanks NYN, i appreciate you giving this another go.

I would like to see Suter stick around, I’ve always been a fan of Boeser, the guy has faced a lot of adversity and has found a way to get through it. But at 8 million cap hit it might be time to trade for anything instead of letting him walk for no return.

I think Boeser goes to market, realizes no one will pay him 8, and then signs back in Van for less. If someone DOES give him 8+, oh well.

I'm hoping they make trades. Suter I wouldn't mind, but one thing management has been pretty good at is finding players in the bargain bin at UFA... Suter, Blueger, Lankinen.. I think they can target another Suter kind of player.

Take with salt, but here are the projected player values from the Athletic:

Think Boes could be a contract that doesn't age well.

Thanks NYN...your efforts are always appreciated. As for the Canucks, every off-season is important, for every team, but coming off the poop-show the Canucks had last season I think this is a major, major, undertaking this summer. There's a lot to address.

Not sure your Canucks can fix the mess they are in, during 1 off-season. I would think this is going to take about 5 years, but more likely 7 years to fix.

At least having a few young defenders in your system helps for down the road, although not much of any forward help anytime soon

Enjoy Quinn Hughes's last full season as a Canuck.

Your Canucks are so far away from being anything, they should view last season as his last full season as a Canuck.
This team needs to build around EP40 as your one and only star.

I know I'm in the minority, but I'd like to see both Quinn Hughes and EP40 traded if the right deals came along.

This is an IG hockey proposal that got picked up on Canucks Daily (so, two worse things than even this site)... but if this were offered, I'd take it for Hughes:

Dougie Hamilton, Simon Nemec, Dawson Mercer, along with two first round picks - 2026 & 2027

and then immediately flip Hamilton for more picks and go shopping from there.

Yeah...I wouldn't say no to that, although Mercer doesn't excite me, at all, but I'd want someone younger and a high first round pick. Something like Tig Iginla, the 4th overall pick & Tomas Lavoie as a starting point.

Basically with my premise I'd want to start a rebuild, something that isn't in the cards for the organization with Aquilini at the helm.

Trading Hughes is psychotic no matter what people dream up for a return. You don't trade the best defenseman in the league in his prime.

Unless you know he's not going to stay, then it's a no-brainer and has to be done. Pure speculation though.

It happens, at 24 years old Matthew Tkachuk said he wasn't going to re-sign in Calgary after finishing with 104 point and 8th in NHL scoring, so they traded him.

And how has Calgary done since then? I think you move heaven and earth to keep the player.

Colorado isn't trading Makar.

That's irrelevant because they didn't perform a rebuild, they tried to remain competitive, so it's not a one size fits all scenario. I'm just stating it happens.

If the Canucks had a stronger forward group and system I'd tend to agree with you, Quinn Hughes is on the verge of a generational player. But they don't, so why stay in that middle ground where you waste two more years of him and then he walks for nothing? His value is at an all time high.

Agree, Makar is by far the current best dman in the league, followed closely by a group that includes Hughes, Dahlin, Werenski & Hedman.

I never like to exclude Josi, plus Harley is sneaking into that 2nd group.

Harley is definitely putting himself into the conversation, and he's only 23 years old. Benning took Podkolzin over him - LOL. Good American kid that Harley!

Josi is washed, he's 35 years old and on the decline.
