Probably so much easier for NJ to get Quinn...

Good write up, as a Canucks fan I want Hughes to remain in Vancouver. He is going to win another few Norris trophies and I hope it’s with the Canucks.

any examples of player for player trades Rutherford has made to qualify him as the best for several decades.

Las Vegas swoops in and gets all 3..Jack lives in LTIR as long as he wants whenever he wants. Pietrangelo can finally retire after 47 years in the league.

Vancouver and Jersey get whomever is considered a fan favourite cap casualty from LV

Quinn Leaves in Free Agency is my thinking.
Vancouver is going to take a step back and that doesn't bode well for attracting players there or retaining players close to Quinn Hughes' level. they'll build through the draft.

Kind of a silly/weird notion. The 3 brothers don't play a heavy game. Its hard to build a team around 2 sub-6 foot players who may be stars ..... when not injured. But small and not physically inclined in playoffs is another matter. And both would be earning north of $10 million each at some point. How good will the 3rd brother (Luke) be is open for debate. Sometimes the notion of the idea sounds better then what the reality would be lke.

I think Quinn is the best and most proven asset of the 3 bros. Vancouver should be focusing on doing whatever it takes to build/rebuild their roster into something super competitive and which forces Quinn to think twice, thrice, five times before he considers leaving as a UFA.

This is not an apples to apples comparison but look at how Florida didn’t break a sweat when it came to extending Reinhart (57 goal season) until the eve of UFA. Now they’ll probably do the same with Bennett. Build a roster that is capable of hanging with the best and winning and youve given your star players just about every reason to stay…and you might just attract a few others to come join them too.

I think this article is pretty ridiculous. The devils are not giving up Jesper and / or Nico….in any trade.

NJ has all the cards here. If Vancpuver wants anything, they will get some prospects and 1st rounders no way Bratt or Nico are moving when he can just sign here. If Van knows, he is gone and to NJ. They will take what is offered rather then get nothing.

I am not sure there is any combination of 2 NJ players that I would take for Quinn Hughes... except maybe Jack and Luke Hughes, which makes no sense.

Maybe the NHL should just have all the players throw their sticks into the middle and pick teams each week.

NJ doesnt have all of the cards, they are trying to build the best team possible right now. Remember, the further things get along, the more unlikely a Hughes reunion could be.

But that doesnt mean Vancouver is in a strong negotiating position and I agree, Bratt and Nico aren't going anywhere in this type of trade.

Hughes for Mercer, Nemec & 2026 1st (unprotected) is probably still favorable for NJ but still gives Vancouver a fairly decent return.

I've pitched on the Penguins boards that something like this would happen:

NJ: Hughes
VAN: Byram, Peterka, Mercer & Nemec.
BUF: E Pettersson, Seamus & NJ 2026 1st

Feels to me like everyone wins, but maybe NJ is paying a price too high?

Vancouver needs to make a deal NOW, while Quinn has the most value. Its clear he isn't going to stay. So get what you can, while you can. Otherwise they lose him for nothing in two years.

Nemec plus Mercer plus player plus 1st.

Vancouver needs to admit they are in a hard rebuild and get what they can for Demko and Petterson.
