Sure, but Im not sure he leaves Edmonton. Opportunity to play with Drai for the next 8 years could be very tempting - Fakepartofme

There's a reason you don't know Owen Beck. He's a horrible players on Montreal, kinda the opposite of McDavid.
So again, who will take his place on the roster, because my answer will change based on it. If the answer is no one, and they're only going to dress 19 players every game next year, that would also change my answer. - jmatchett383
I cant predict the future. So not exactly sure who replaces him.....but Ive been told it will be easy.
Maybe Kane on a short term deal, giving Cowen time to maybe crack the 2nd line.
We'll see in 28 days I guess. |

I don't think replacing a 1st line winger falls into the "easy" bin. But just stating that, unless you can say who will fill his spot, you can't make an educated guess as to how it will affect the team. |

For the record, I dont either.
But you cant overpay even more a reg season performer either.
Based on who is available, you could guess who might....which is all we can do until he is actually replaced.
Maybe willie moves up to replace Marner and you find a 2nd line winger.
We'll see. |

Marner doesn't fit with Berube's style, for starters. His game is slow, methodical; he's not going to get in on the forecheck at all.
PK duties, well, as you know, Laughton is a very good PKer and they're generally better suited from your 4th liners, who aren't playing a ton of minutes.
Speaking of minutes, distributing the ice-time better is another bonus side effect of losing Marner: he became every coach's play-thing, like they couldn't stop over-utilizing him in all situations.
In reality, if the Core 4 didn't run the asylum, it would've made far more sense to spread the talent around the lineup, but 34/16 seemed to be nixing that regularly, so it was never tried for more than a few games in the last couple of seasons. |

if the rumored price is accurate you wont find better value than JT for a 2nd line.

While I do get this in genera, the top-4 SHG leaders are Gretzky, Messier, Yzerman, and Lemiuex. Other elite players like Datsyuk, Fedorov, Bergeron, and Hossa were considered top PK players in the league. Granted, their skill will allow them to put up more SHG than your average 4th liner, but those players still earned SHO TOI due to just being damn good Sh players. |

Yeah, and how many does Marner have? 10 in his career? Just saying, it's not like we're losing a dynamic generational scoring winger here. |

Not at all. Just saying the "Just use your scrubs to kill penalties" mentality that some people have isn't always the best route. |

Marchand likely wants more Cups at this point, probably doesn't need a payday. Keep in mind that Florida has no income tax, which will allow them to take a lower salary for a similar take-home to other teams.
Bennett and Marchand are going nowhere at all. - jmatchett383
Even taking taxes into account, I don’t see how Florida can keep more than one out of Bennett, Ekblad or Marchand unless they all agree to give up $. Panthers are in a cap hole. |

so what I see
Florida has 18.5 cap space with 16 players signed
Leafs have 27.2 cap space with 16 players signed

The $9M that Bennett is rumoured to be able to get in free agency costs about $7.5M in Florida. Ekblad is making $7M and will want a raise. Marchand is making $6 but obviously will get less on his next contract. Plus, Panthers need to sign a goalie.
Bennett and Ekblad would take up almost all of their cap space |

Ekblad is making 7.5, I think. Idk if he’ll demand a raise. He seems to be willing to take a bit less to stay, we’ll see. Assuming they reach a deal with priority numero uno Sammy, Marchand will be gone, I don’t see how they can re-sign him.

different situation now, they have another failure on the resume.
It cant work paying Mitch 13 or 14 and be able to rebuild a deeper playoff team
