That’s a confidence issue. Always feeling pressure (sometimes even when it’s not there). I think a new coach/new voice would do wonders for him. Get him more engaged physically as well and things will start to click for him.

With three different coaches? It's not something new

Yeah, but Housely was just awful. Like, create problems, not solve problems kind of bad. Mostly, I'm hoping the new staff can teach Miller to try and make his play one or two beats earlier. So often, he attempts the right play, but just waits until the checker is right on top of him before he starts it.

Miller to Utah for McBain and a 2nd rounder next year (maybe get our pick back from a prior trade with them).

Just a pipe dream...it did not happen...yet.

Exactly...been there, said that three times.

Oh, he has all the goods...yep...been there, said that...for five years.

Time to move on.

Issue is they have a huge hole at LHD after that. Defense needs to be addressed for next season. Fox Borgen Schneider probably the only starters for now

That will be addressed via UFA and a trade. Don't forget Vaak and Soucy. Both will play better in a zone D.

Urho and Socuy are not starters in this league. 7/8 options. Soucy will and should be moved. If drury can get Garikov or another D in a trade sure but the left side is still pretty bad. Too many 5/6 caliber dmen on this team

Until they get moved elsewhere and play great. How many times have we seen that unfold? Soucy was really bad, but he’s had good seasons. Wouldn’t be surprised if he turned it around. Vak doesn’t usually stand out good or bad which is typically positive for defensemen.

Many write these two off because they are not sexy named players. If you see bloggers that remove them and who they replace them with, you'd question their intellect.

I agree that both aren't the best, but for what they are worth, they can be serviceable...nothing great, nothing bad...which, as you said, is not a bad thing for a defenseman.

Soucy has not been good for a few seasons now. Urho is not bad he just is more a 7th dman on a contender.

Urho can be serviceable but my point is he is redundant. The Rangers have 4 dmen that are bottom pair worthy. Soucy has not been a starter for a few seasons now.

Honestly, he was only “bad” last season. Otherwise been a pretty solid defensive defenseman his whole career.

Does seem he has issues staying healthy, though.

Urho got exposed bad during the 4 nations. He’s a bottom pair guy at best.

Soucy used to be a physical dman, but I didn’t see that too much from him while we’ve had him. I actually thought he could work out for us, but he’s a shell of what I remember him as.

It would not be a huge issue if they had dmen outside of borgen and schneider who have not shown consistent enough top 4 play yet.

Borgen as a 3rd pair guy, eh whatever. I think we could do better but is what it is.

Urho Soucy are 3rd pair/7th dman, Jones should be sold to the highest bidder if anyone even wants him.

Miller should be kept as a 2nd pair guy.

I am no fan of Soucy. But, honestly, the switch from zone to m2m defense could greatly account for his lack of hitting. Easier to find your path to initiate contact if you know where you're supposed to be coming from.

He plays zone D . Last year when he was on the Rangers, he could not keep up with the m-2-m style...nobody really could. I expect much better in a different, and better, system.

You cannot hit anyone while chasing them around the ice. I don't believe we ever saw a Trouba-train at all last season while Trouba was still here.

I think they just dont want to pay him long term. He may not want a bridge deal. Looking to move him bc of that or offer sheet threat

If he gets an offer sheet we’re getting a 1st and a 3rd. If a team like MTL wanted him (Gorton was high on him when he drafted him) and gave us Xhekaj+ or even if they said hey, instead of an offer sheet here’s a 1st and 3rd, maybe it works out. But who are we replacing him with? If the pick is 24ish+ (depending on the team) it’s not worth it IMO.

Maybe a team knowing he will get an offer sheet just offers a mid-teens pick and we move on?

If they take picks I’m sure they flip them for a young nhl ready D. I don’t think they move him unless they have his replacement lined up plus another LHD

Drury’s done a lot of things without having something else lined up …….

He usually has something lined but just the wrong personnel. Hopefully that changes

Sources say #NYR and #NHLDucks are in advanced discussions on a deal that would send Chris Kreider to Orange County.

No semantics: there is NO DEAL at this moment in time.

But there is interest - and a framework. Both teams had other irons in the fire today. We'll see on Wed.
