It's also unbelievably more simple (and chalked full of common sense) to move on from paying a RW 13-14M per season who is a UFA than a RW who has 7 years left at 11M per and just scored 45 goals and has a full NMC.

You realize if they trade Nylander they’ll get a good player back, right? I’d look for a couple of 45-60 pt guys that can play in the middle 6, and very good defensively and forechecking. Because that’s what they need and what Willy doesn’t bring.

If Marner walks they get nothing. So it makes more sense to trade Willy just for that reason alone, never mind Marner is a much better team player.
