Caps going up, but it is still not unlimited and money talks.
Leafs still will need money under the Cap, especially they have no draft pics for trades.
The money is the only asset they can have.
I have nothing personal against Marner, but his contract has to make sense to Leafs orgranization.
It is nothing personal, it is strictly business. - alex.TML
So far no leafyness unless we hear Woll can’t go again just before puck drop lol - bryant
I just read that the Leafs allowed just 3 shots from the slot in the last game, the fewest of any game in the playoffs this year. If they can replicate that we should win.

But I’m absolutely terrified. - shack67
That's hard to do but we shall see. I'm a bundle of nerves and excitement
Here come all the snowflakes to protect Mitch the b!tch lmaooo. Imagine having a top pairing defensemen instead of Marner, damn. Leafs would be unstoppable - optimus-reim

We know Bettman said the cap will go up.
With the current economic instability, who know if it will really go up much.
I like Marner a lot too, without him Leafs could miss playoffs this year.
The problem is his contract and how it will impact the rest of the team.
He is a great player with some limitations, mostly during playoffs, when no time and room available. The question is what he should cost to Leafs to keep some balance across all positions. - alex.TML
I personally think the notion this team misses the playoffs outright without Marner is absolutely ridiculous.
PK strength is not hard to find, plenty of teams around the league do it with less than 1.5 million every year. A 100 point season is fantastic, without Marner they likely replace that with a player who's going to put up 60 points beside Matthews, if not 70. They do it for less money too, and the additional cap space gets used to improve elsewhere.
The only reason this team has finally even flirted with the 3rd round is because they're much more than one player. The clear improvements on the blueline and in the net gets them to the post season without Marner alone.

Should have kept listening to what Buttman said...there's no who knows about it.
The league and the Players' Association released the cap numbers for the next three seasons: $95.5 million in 2025-26, $104 million in '26-27 and $113.5 million in '27-28. The cap is $88 million this season, and each leap is the biggest since it was implemented in 2005
In 3 years from now the cap will have gone up by roughly 25 million.
If Marner puts the team on his back and gets them through tonight, everyone immediately forgets he's been a reliable letdown in every crucial playoff game in his career.

Depends on what they get for these 14 millions instead.
These 100 points from Marner helped the team to win division, but how critical he is for this team I don't know. I would definitely prefer couple of Bennet type of wingers for the same money, giving Leafs can make such deal.

That's would be fantastic, but I don't think Marner has body frame and ability to make such impact. It is not all about his will and determination, but physical limitations too.
