Except he is now 3 goals for his last 20 playoff games and before that his playoff play was nowhere near what the other top players in the league do.

Marner, Matthews, Tavares, Nylander and Rielly sh1t the bed again. No amount of goaltending, defensive depth or new 3rd and 4th liners can resuce the team when more than half the cap has zero heart.

I'm not defending Marner's play. I am just tired of only a few people here willing to acknowledge the facts about Matthews' production.

I am not trying to defend Mathews, I am not delusional and saw what he really is in playoffs, but I can't just imagine how they can replace him.

No free pass, it’s just that the only player we can do something about is Marner and JT. Matthews is signed. Leafs have changed the Manager, the goalies, the D, the supporting forwards, the coach……and still the SAME crap! How can absolutely every human being on the planet not see that!? Meaning Leaf Brass! What makes them dumber than the rest of the world!? Unbelievable. Zero push back! Zero. But that’s really not a surprise. After over 50yrs watching, last fall I put my Leaf jersey in the back of the closet and cancelled my NHL channels and quit watching them.

To be completely honest this rebuild failed dramatically. They drafted wrong players and give them wrong contracts. It is not fixable problem.

Matthews is signed and we can’t do anything about it. He’s no warrior. Never will be. I trade him for Bredy Tkachuk (sp?) every day of the week. But like I said, never gonna happen. So you need to deal with what you have. Marner is ufa, let him walk. JT is ufa, sign him for 50% his current and put him 3rd line centre. Knies needs to get paid this summer. Maybe we can sign Bennett. JT and AM, Willie and Marner are great players, BUT they are too soft and Leafs have too many soft players making over $10mil. Why the frank do they keep doing the same thing every year and not see that!?

Because they did mistake in draft. They can't replace Marner and Nylander, this team will not make playoff without them, but with them it is going to be the same results every single time. There is no solution for this problem.

I think the thing for me is that I just don't like most of this team. I mean, as a fan *should* I like the team. I will always cheer for the Leafs of course, but I would rather miss the playoffs with a team who I thought were truly trying to win than watch whatever the hell this has been for what, 9 years.

I guess we hope they make a comeback, but after that showing tonight, it really doesn't look likely.

All the other players are doing their part but when the Whore 5 don't show up, not much they can do...especially with Woll in net. (he had a great game 4 but a zamboni driver shut out the Leafs once too, lucky games happen.)
