When you look at playoffs as a whole, the blueline has played well and contributed offence. They've had a bit of secondary scoring. Had a 4th line that's kept the team in other zone for stretches. Aside from a couple outings from Woll they've had goaltending. Willy and JT have been here.

The one thing they haven't had is Marner and Matthews. It should be evident now, it's been the same since Montreal made them invisible in the playoffs.

Those two are incapable of showing up when needed and there's no amount of changes to make than can compensate for it. Marner turns into a net negative throwing up junior prayers like that puke up through centre ice that led to 3rd goal. You gotta move on from them.

Team defense is not the issue at all. Tanev, OEL, McCabe, Benoit has been an excellent group, Carlo has been decent, Rielly has been mediocre.

Woll has let in as many softies as Stolarz has and generally has played well.

But when you're committing ~28M to two guys who disappear, year in, year out, almost a decade of this... I mean, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results... oh wait, let's bring in a different coach and GM and run it back again! Yeah! That's gonna show 'em!

You keep Matthews because he's a 1C and he's under term. JT and Marner walk, fill the gaps with reliable two-way players with jam/size, bring in Cowan to be Marner-lite or move Domi up there, but we have to do something different.
