So what’s the slogan gonna be for tanking this year? McCan’t for McKenna?

Chicago I bet likes Martone right now. He’d be a great wing to put with Bedard.

As for Utah, how much you wanna give to move up 2? They might listen. I don’t think I’d offer. Not with the way Hagens played this year. I’d rather roll the dice with Desnoyers and the extra picks you’d have to offer up to get him.

- Hesh_

I agree, it all depends on how they view these kids. If it plays out your way and the Flyers brain trust feels there's a slim difference between Hagens, Desnoyers, O'Brien, whomever, then sure, stay put.

But if they feel Hagens is the only one of the three with #1 potential, I'd say go for it. That's what you need, not another 2-3 center, or 3-4 D man.

If he's the real deal, and you can make a play get him, do it. Why roll the dice with lesser picks? They placed themselves in this position to make a move like this. Take advantage.

If it costs you like 6th OA, the Oilers’ pick and a late 2, I guess I’d chew on it, but I mean look at this team. We need every shot at striking gold we can get.

Desnoyers and O’Brien could have 1st line potential. Desnoyers played fast, heads up hockey. Could be a new Giroux for us if the hockey gods allow it.

Only this potential Giroux type would have an animal in his early 20s paired with him once he steps up to the NHL.

He’s smart. He’s a playmaker. He’s a fast and creative passer. I’d pair a guy like that with Michkov any day.

No real consensus after top 2….was hoping we got the #1 when it was down to the last ball…. Still should get a really solid prospect….as in a top of line up player.

Yeah, that’s why I’m fine chillin at 6.

Martone, Hagens, Desnoyers, Frondell, O’Brien. Two will be left, and we’ve got our choice between them.

Sounds good.

Probably cross off Martone. I see him playing with Bedard in the near future.

There’s an outside chance something like:

Schaefer
Misa
Martone
Desnoyers
Frondell
Hagens

That’s what you’re hoping for if you like Hagens.

But I wouldn’t count on it.

Based on prior years, hell last year, you never know. The only thing that is just about in stone is that Schaefer and Misa go first and second. Their order to be determined.

- Hesh_

We dont know what will happen. Shane Wright was supposed to be the defacto #1 and he dropped to 4th.

Ya my wish list after Schaefer and Misa are.

#1. ….Frondell
#2….Hagens
#3…. Matrone.
#4…Desnoyer…

Any of these guys become their best prospect….we have 3 really solid ones in Bump, Bonk and Luchanko…..so add a at #6 and hopefully at least one or two more and the future is starting to look more promising.

Mhm, I mentioned that. There have been a lot of surprises recently. Wright was dipping a little at the end, but nobody expected 4th.

I’d still lay a lot of money on Schaefer and Misa being the top 2 (whichever way), but after that, it’s anyone’s guess.

What a disaster. I’m surprised we didn’t end up 20th over overall ffs. Might as well have. I guess this is why you don’t try tank especially as the flyers.

We’re not getting any of them. We’ll go off the board for another right winger as bpa.

This is why the Flyers tanking is a waste of time. They will get screwed anyway. Just look at 2006. They finished last in the league by 30 points and ended up getting screwed out of the first pick. They ended up with JVR instead of Patrick Kane. Tanking doesn't work!! Oh, and what the hell was with that draft lottery format. You need freaking Einstein to figure out what the hell was going on! Just go back to the placards! Thanks!

I can see Pittsburgh getting the #1 and Boston getting the #2, as we drop to #6.
- meduser

Pittsburgh was never going to win the draft lottery this year… it would be suspicious for them to win it 2 years in a row. There is a generational talent available next year in McKenna. Without a generational talent, the Pens fan base will leave.

Agree…islanders and Utah didn’t tank….the rebuild was never going to bottom out as the Flyers refused to let it happen.
With that said the # 6 is not the end of the world….although it does suck. If you look at the last 10 years of the draft there are stars littered through out the 1rst rounds from top to bottom….Briere and his staff simply have to hit on some of these picks. For every Kyle Connor @17 there is a Nolan Patrick at # 2.
For Every Mathew Tkachuk @6 there is a Shane Wright at 4
For every Thomas Harley @18 there is a Cam York @14
For every Quinn Hughes @7 there is a there is an Alexander Nylander @8

So although I am disappointed we had the worst possible scenario it doesn’t mean that we are screwed, it just means Briere has to get this right….which was always going to be the case. Am I confident he can ? I’m not sure. His drafting results are still in the early stages of their development….so far there are a quite a few promising prospects….time will, tell

If frondell is there he is my pick.

Mrtka is my guess if they go off board as well, and the reason is that he’s a defensemen

My God, some of you are the biggest cry babies I've ever seen on here. Picking 6th overall is a fantastic opportunity for the organization, not only that, we have 8 picks in the top 50 selections this year. It's an amazing opportunity for growth for the team.

Building takes time, sure it'd be nice to get a generational player, but there isn't any this year, so you build one brick at a time. There's no timeline on building through the draft, it takes as long as it takes and the draft certainly isn't an exact science, or hit every time on players. There's always going to be misses, for every team, but you just keep doing it until you've got something.

There's some good young player in the system already, Brink is 23 and just had a good breakout year, Foerster is 23 and he's just had another 20+ goal season, Michkov, Bonk, Bjarnason, Luckanko, Berglund, and that list is going to grow significantly this draft.

This whole thing is a multi-year process, buckle up, because this is just the start of it.

I hear that and agree. They came close to securing first overall, but they’ll get a really good player. I really want to see Briere get aggressive and use some of extra draft capital to move up with his second first rounder.

Worst possible scenario would have been the #6 pick coupled with a Colorado/Edmonton WCF, so the Flyers at least have a little something going for them.
