According to Lecavalier he was traded to Toronto in 2001 for antropov, hoglund and kaberle.
But 30mins after the deal was done, tampas president nixed the deal. He fired the gm. |

I saw that interview. Imagine if he had become a Leaf 😳.
That 2001 team was pretty stacked!

I read that. That would have been an insanely good trade for the Leafs and probably takes away Tampa's cup in 2004.

hot take
vinny doesn't make the leafs good enough to win a cup prior to the 05 lockout, but the miserable post lockout 2005-2016 timeline changes so dramatically that the kessel trade never happens and who knows?
i bet the leafs gms still would have messed it up lads |

So, should interference penalties stand if they happen after an offside that gets a goal taken back?
Seems like time should go back for everything except intent to injure penalties.
Maybe not.
I dunno. |

Oh don't worry I have to shop at thick and strong neck store. One time I was guilty of buying a dress shirt from a pencil neck store, couldn't close the top button.
I think gritting my teeth a lot as a Leafs fan helps. - Zezel
you’d think this if you had a natural fat neck 👍
this doesn’t mean that it’s strong just like any body part👊🏿
for all you kids out there: work the neck for a warmup before deadlift and squat👊🏻
don’t forget about your body weight exercises👊🏿
i’ll climb a rope with my hands, come back down and go on to my next supper set👊

I would snap your neck in half in a neck wrestling contest
Mostly because you don't know the rules and they are heavily rigged in my favor but whatever |

Ultimately I think the idea is that a penalty is a penalty; they didn't know at the time they committed the foul that it was offside or hand-passed or whatever. You don't get to get away with punching someone in the face for free if they're not on the Leafs and I think a one-size fits all rule is what you'd look for there.

Do people really feel this way?
In that series, the Panthers and the Leafs were quite close at even strength. The Leafs, you'd even argue, had a 5v5 advantage in the way they played. Bobrovsky was absolutely stellar - he stole the series for them and if you followed the bouncing ball, he did the same thing against Carolina in their next series. I think a massive differentiator was the special teams and I'm hoping some of the improvements this year - at least so far in the playoffs - can continue to help there.
The Panthers are a big team. They're strong, physical, they have a fantastic forecheck and they have good finishing. I think they are generally a faster team as well. On that surface it's not exactly looking too good.
The Leafs should have better finishing and they have vastly improved their defense and goaltending from 2 years ago. They weren't bad:
Rielly-Schenn; Brodie-McCabe and then Giordano/Holl/Liljegren in the mixture of suck as the third pair - backed up in net by Samsonov (.898% in the playoffs) with 2 games Woll at the end.
I mention that because compared to Rielly-Carlo; Tanev-McCabe and OEL-Benoit, this year's defense is stronger and better at actual defense. You put them in front of Stolarz or a more seasoned Woll and our goaltending is better as well.
That Florida team had Forsling-Ekblad, Staal-Montour and mostly Mahura-Gudas.
This one has Ekblad-Forsling, Mikkola-Jones and Kulikov-Schmidt. Still big - maybe bigger when you take Mikkola and Jones compared to Staal and Gudas - but maybe not quite as adept at moving the puck and some guys in there - Jones, Kulikov and Schmidt in particular aren't the strongest on D either.
I thought that last time we played them we got goalied and that we probably needed an extra gear to get to the net and create chaos down low. I think we have more guys who will do that now.
I don't think either team is really coming in that banged up. At least not from their first round series. Matthews is still not healthy and that is probably the team's biggest challenge. - Monkeypunk
tldr most of this. But to answer your question yes people feel this way. There's a reason Florida has been to the finals twice in the last two years, won a cup, while we have won 2 rounds in what.. 8 - 10 years?
Florida dismantled a much better team quicker in Tampa, than we did with an inferior opponent in Ottawa.
Not saying Leafs can't win, but when you have a team that has proven it can win more than 1 round consistently, and another who has proven the opposite, there is legitimate reason for concern. |

So…
Top 20 lines in the playoffs, 5 on 5 expected goal %. Leafs sit…
8th - Willy, JT, Holmboy
17th - Lorentz, Laughton, YarnRichard
19th - Knies, Matthews, Marner
I see room for improvement. YAY for us. |

I realize the regular season compared to the playoffs are not typically comparable but there's something in Florida's playstyle which contravenes Tampa's - Florida was 4-0 in the regular season against them as well. For the record I thought Toronto matched up better against Tampa and Ottawa would've matched up better against Florida based on their respective playstyles.
That said my long point was that Toronto's defense and goaltending are better than last time we met. Florida is largely the same; maybe a little weaker. The last series was 4-1 but had 2 OT games and 4 1 goal games. It was closer than most disappointed Leaf fans recall it being.
1 goal games are our bread and butter this year! But jokes aside, I'd still favour Florida but I think the Leafs clogging style in the D-Zone may work more to their favour than their previous more open style.

Are you one of those people who think Knies will land $9+ mill as well?
Personally I think that’s an overpayment for a 58P player who was on a line with two top 10 picks who are all stars and usually around 100P each.
I love Knies, I really do, but I also think that’s an overpayment for him. If he was on a line with less talented guys than those 2 it would effect his point production rather notably is my guess. |
