For me Nemec, Silayev are the keys. Add Mercer as we need C's big time, and he is stuck behind Hughes and Hischier. Balance out with as any picks as you can.

Hughes is a dynamic player but that’s quite the ask for someone that has handcuffed the Canucks. It’s like the Tkachuk trade from the Flames. Why wouldn’t they just wait til he gets closer to free agency?

Biggest reason sooner than later is PO window is wide open. Secondary is Hughes modified contract brings more compeition for his services til UFA &/or if could be resigned or flipped.

And not just straight picks, but developed prospect of the highest value in Nemec. And I really like Silayev.

100% agree I too like Silayev in a big way. Mercer could use a change of scenery & opportunity. Not saying it’s given he can be a true top 6C either but speed C depth is ok.

I'll play and pretend that we add a C with an impact similar to Miller. I'd say we're in a better position now to trade a 1st round pick (only the pick) for an impact top 6C than we were when we actually traded for Miller.

I'm not saying it's the right move, just saying it makes more sense now than it did then.
