Wrong, I'm not bankrupt.
That is not an answer to the question.
What does or can the team do in 4 months to change an unchangeable situation? - carsonagenic
Your assumptions are the flaw in your logic, there is plenty they can do. |

I agree, 100% you try and resign him!
However, based on current team issues, not assumptions, no coach, "star C issues", cap issues, lack of depth, ownership....
It is a very difficult spot. He needs to commit to the team and resign a 100 mil+ 8 year contract. However, the team can't heavy him and the realities, not assumptions of him being American, brothers in US and his desire to possibly play with them, lower taxes, less travel, way better teams to sign with, etc. The team can not go into his final contract year without him resigned. Way too big of a risk for an asset of his caliber. I don't see any way the team can improve enough in a very short window to make him want to commit his career here. Which absolutely sucks. |

I agree, that sucks if true I will be gutted. Favourite player since bure to put the jersey on. But there’s a possible future where the other Hughes bros end up here, or he plays with them later in his career. 100% of my focus would be getting him to stay if I were GM. Until he says he’s not going to, there’s no way I would give up. |

Hughes is a generational dman. Something the Canucks have never had. I don't want to trade him either, just thinking about it is crazy. But, like I said, the asset that Quinn Hughes is can't be wasted and let walk. And you can't heavy him, so there is little in my opinion that the Canucks organization can offer him that he can't get in a way better situation somewhere else. So reality will have to be faced within the next 9 months, next trade deadline at the very latest. And even then his value will be less than what it is now. |

Maybe. But I have some faith that he has some love for the team that drafted him and made him captain. He can resign here and still play with his brothers later. I agree you can’t just let him walk, but you ask what it would take and you work back from that to make it happen.

Just don't wait for the floods, fires, or atmospheric rivers to cause the best ownership / management combo in the league to be too late and have the decision made for them. |

Mercer
Nemec
Silayev
2025 1st
For
Hughes
So NJ gets the best player in the deal, duh.
But the Canucks get,
Nemec, 21 2oa 2022 who is ready to step in and play minutes and was considered one of the best d prospects in the league. Still on ELC, so cost controlled for years to come.
Mercer, a 2lc that is 23 signed for 2 more years at 4mil, fast and has upside that won't be seen it NJ with their C depth. Pushes Chytil to 3lc, where he should be.
Silayev, 19, 10oa 2024 pick, explosive skating 6'7" 207# dman than could be the steal in the deal.
And a 1st that will be obviously late round, but more 1st's the better to load the system or a trade chip.
That is my minimum starting point with NJ.
Gives the Canucks a great young stable of dmen going forward with current kids, Willander, D Petey, etc. Opens up a lot of cap space to work on the forward group after F Petey is dealt.
They may not get a player of Hughes ability, but to add 2 top 4 dmen prospects, a 2lc and a 1st begins to fill holes on this flawed roster.
M Petey / Hronek
D Petey / Nemec
Forbert / Willlander
Mancini
Myers
Kudryavatsev, Silayev stewing in Abby.
Doesnt have the dynamic Hughes...😔
But a very solid D core to build up the team upon with Demko and Lanky in net. |

Essentially Hughes for 4-1sts…fair
I like it if has to come to be Hughes has to moved. Of course losing him is a huge loss. Sometimes stuff is forced or is in the cards.
C depth is better & the draft can be more BPA F on who falls. Sniper & speed? |

New Jersey doesn’t have a 2025 1st, they traded it along with Kevin Bahl for Marky. Thanks Benning😆
Hughes is a dynamic player but that’s quite the ask for someone that has handcuffed the Canucks. It’s like the Tkachuk trade from the Flames. Why wouldn’t they just wait til he gets closer to free agency?

2 years of cost controlled 7.8 mil Hughes. That's insane value hockeywise. And especially with the revenue generated in the Bros angle of things. The Canucks can even retain on him to get further value.
So 2026 1st then + something else |

And not just straight picks, but developed prospect of the highest value in Nemec. And I really like Silayev. |
