You just can't explain it to someone who hasn't experienced it playing or sat in a room and seen how 20 guys interact throughout a season. I tried for about 10 pages over the last few months. But apparently 1 or 2 Canadians are enough to succeed in the Stanley Cup playoffs, even though there isn't a stitch of historical data in over 100 years to back that up.

It would be great to have some more Canucks, on the Canucks.

Wasn't he 38 years old when Gillis signed him?

Ya, pretty imposing, what is it now, 4 defenders at 190 or less? That is going to be a fun to play against group.
- Nuckerwhatever

Ya Reuby, there's some truth to that for sure, however, that didn't work very well with Soucy, Desharnais or Forbort. Although, there's a serious lack of skill there, so there is that.

They do need a guy like Niko Mikkola or Esa Lindell, maybe Allvin needs to head over to Finland to do some scouting? Florida has some bigger "D" this year, be more like Florida.

All that being said, my comment was meant to mean the forward group has a lot more to be fixed than the defensive group.

Yeah, but they're mobile and can transition the puck quickly. Just completely ignore all the heavy board battles and net clearing you're gonna see in the finals. They don't matter.
- Load Management

I don't think they have to worry about the finals and competing with some heavy dmen in them.

Mancini at 6'3" 230 lbs should make the team next season, young Elias Pettersson is a big boy too, and of course your favorite Canuck Tyler Myers is 6'8" 230 lbs. But you're both right in that they need to get some guys back there that are bigger but are also mobile. I'd love to somehow get Owen Power out of Buffalo on the Canucks or Flyers.

I hope he falls to the Flyers. Him or Hagens, but the Islanders might take the hometown boy 1st overall (Hagens).
- Pacificgem

Misa or shaefer are going first. I don’t think Hagens is in the convo anymore

Not sure I buy that fully but I do get the dysfunction of the franchise turns people away. It's a top Hockey market in the country. You throw enough cash at Marner and he'll consider coming here. Especially if he knows Hughes is staying. I'm not down on Pettersson like most and think he will rebound. I don't see ownership letting a fresh start happening at the draft. But we'll see. Like I said move Pettersson for Horvat/Barzal (or both) and bring in Marner and you have basically replaced all the points lost with JTM (and Petey) potentially gone. It can all be done, just requires some creative thinking. Foote will replace Tocchet quite well in my opinion. Similar lines of thinking there. It's all workable. Unless the haul for Hughes is absolutely massive, Keep him here.
- ScotlandVonRickens

That doesn't make the team any less soft, Lordy. You were the one wanting Horvat traded because he didn't punch faces.
Marner? The idea is to improve the team not only for the regular season but the playoffs, as well.

Part of what I love about the playoffs is the physical play ramps up. The fast heavy forecheck. Guys putting their bodies on the line. Paying the price to get to the hard spaces. We just haven't seen a lot of this with the Canucks over the last decade because they either can't get these type of horses, or refuse to keep them in the stable when they do.

Anyone with eyes can see the giant backwards step management took this year through poor decision making. Either of the 2 teams in the final would pop Petey like a zit out there. Yet that's what they chose to build the forward group around. That's also why this team can have the best D on the planet, but is still nowhere close. It doesn't matter if they trade him at this point. He'll get run out of town soon enough if he doesn't show up ready next season.

PS Never forget, Tyler Myers broke Draisaitl's ribs last year in the playoffs.

The Canucks aren't in it to win, they're in it to sell tickets to idiots.

Just saw this in The Province.

Victoria Royals lose two top players to NCAA's North Dakota — what's next for WHL?
Centre Cole Reschny, 18, and defenceman Keaton Verhoeff, 16, are the latest players to give up multiple years of junior to go the U.S. college route, taking advantage of new rules

You are so weird man I'm in Ft St John and LH is in Alberta. But hey you do you Danny. Personally I never wanted Horvat out and I'm ok bringing Marner here. With Hughes in the PO's here Marner would surge. Without a doubt. You don't think bringing Horvat/Barzal and even Marner to this roster would improve the team over just keeping Pettersson? Odd duck man.

Other than getting an education while you play hockey, instead of after, I don’t really see the benefit. Maybe less travel?

Sure Lordy.

I don't think Horvat and Marner will make the Canucks a better playoff team. That's all I really care about, the Canucks being a good playoff team. Now, off to your fetish room with wing night with the boys.

No sir. Courses up here in FSJ aren't stellar don't play much maybe twice per year. Hockey and killer softball up here is pretty much it.

Anyways, the Canucks will be a good playoff team it just takes a little tweaking. If Boeser stays and Hughes as well plus a healthy Demko we still have good pieces in place just need to complement what we have. Team only finished 6-7 points out of a PO spot not much needs to be done.

Ottawa finished one point behind Florida, if you can believe that, the Canucks need quality in their players and to commit to a system. You make your money in the regular season, you make your name in the playoffs.

Not funny. This one really stings. I deserved at least one more year out of these kids. North Dakota...really?
