Agreed.
Plus he’ll go to a contender.
Not sure why he’d leave Florida tbh. - dbot
There’s only one reason, and it does kinda make sense to get paid after winning a few. |

It was a joke about him being desperate for more canadians on the roster. Would have to be insane to think Marner solves anything for this team |

You guys have had some real zingers over the last couple of days.
I'll share a story here that made me smile.
One of my Wife's female Danish relatives texted her at the start of the 3rd excited that Denmark was still tied. Then texted her updates throughout the period. Starting with disappointment. Then happy they tied. To the absolute joy of winning.
I've met this lady and a few of my Danish in laws. They're always a fun visit. Sometimes there's language barriers with some of them, some speak perfectly good English. Never once in these interactions has the subject of Hockey come up. Ever. My Wife didn't even know when the game was on, only we played Denmark. After the game, her phone explodes. Guess who wants to talk Hockey all of the sudden.
I sincerely hope, for the sake of my extended family, that they at least medal. That Danish victory was so good for Hockey culture there. It's something that brought people together under the flag of their country and gave cause for celebration. How can you hate something like that? And I can guarantee you, I'll never have to bring up the subject of Hockey to my Dane-in-Laws, to have a conversation about it ever again.
Nothing wrong with a little patriotism. |

That's a nice story, and great for the Danes. It's things like that that get the youth more invested in the sport. It happens all the time with a winning or hosting nation – I'm sure there will be a major bump with the World Cup being hosted in North America too.
That said, there are more ice hockey rinks in Canada than there are registered ice hockey players in the whole of Denmark... by about 2000. |

It's almost a good thing that Canada and the US care so little about the world championships honestly, it gives smaller nations a chance to shine instead of getting stomped like at the Olympics |

Pods has found some snark on the oilers, sure would not have minded him if he played like that even if it is bottom 6 |

It's good to see Pods getting a real shot and succeeding. He was never was given that opportunity here. |

Imagine, they could've drafted Matthew Boldy, Spencer Knight, Cole Caufield or Thomas Harley, all taken within eight picks after Podkolzin. Nice kid, but you could've taken him in the 4th round and got a serviceable bottom six NHL guy like him, what a gross, unacceptable, piece of drafting by Jim Benning. Who, apparently, forced Podkolzin on the organization against the head amateur scouts wishes. |

Speaking of drafting, Dallas has done an amazing job since the 2015 NHL draft picking up such great players that have allowed them to get into the Conference Finals three years in a row. Somewhere the Toronto Maple Leafs have only been ONCE in the past 31 years.
2015 - Roope Hintz 2nd round 49th OA
2017 - Miro Heiskanen 1st round 3rd OA
2017 - Jake Oettinger 1st round 26th OA
2017 - Jason Robertson 2nd round 39th OA
2019 - Thomas Harley 1st round 18th OA
2021 - Wyatt Johnston 1st round 23rd OA
Only one of those picks was taken in the top 15 of the first round, of any one said draft, Heiskanen, so drafting 15th overall is fine, if you make it count. Unlike the Podkolzin pick.

There are always second guesses however under Boudreau Podkolzin appeared to be on his way. Under Tocchet not so much. Can't say I'm all that unhappy Tocchet is gone. |

playing in canada is not a draw unfortunately. - dbot
Not unless you have a Stanley Cup contender and a couple of the best players in the world to play with. It’s too (frank)ing cold. |

CDN $, taxes, media scrutiny, hyper-critical fans are more what i was thinking.
But yeah, the weather is certainly nicer in Florida or California.

Buffalo and Minnesota are probably the only US based NHL cities that don’t have at least fractionally better weather than every Canadian city. Drafting well is so important when you can’t attract good UFA’s.
Just watching the NLL Finals, Saskatchewan vs Buffalo, good game. |

Summer on Vancouver Island is hard to beat. It's the other 9 months of the year that can get tiring.
I don't care too much about the weather personally.

You sound like Benning taught you well, with excuses like weather/flooding etc. |
