The "Angry Elf" is having himself a nice World Championship after a very good regular season for us. With him under contract for the up coming season, is it time to consider selling this summer? I think we could pick up a pretty good haul for a consistent 20 goal/40-60 point player.

If we keep him, what's his next contract going to look like?

- claygolf83

I think you do everything you can to keep him around, but if he wants to go UFA next summer you start making calls. Way too good of a player and really brings the effort you want every night, should have a letter on his sweater imo.

I think 30+ years ago you're right: Canadians wanted it more, it was their brand of hockey, they knew the ice size, etc etc. But the game has changed, the rest of the countries have equalized, the kids that come up have just as much desire to win (especially with how much it takes to even make it to the NHL now, and their access to the NHL from a young age with the internet)... it takes skill, will, talent, chemistry, and whole lot of luck to win a Cup. That team makeup isn't just about which country a certain threshold of players are born in.

Like Grapes, it's outdated.

Anywho, we can stop spamming the boards about this again

Tell ya what, let me know how outdated my opinion is when a team wins a cup with 2 Canadians on it's roster. Until then, it's quite relevant and current.

In the meantime, go find a nice European sized rink and go for a skate for some perspective. Wear a helmet.

A couple of years ago I wanted to run him out of town. But if they trade him they'll need to replace what he provides.

I mean, if they can upgrade any position at this point they should. They desperately need a 2lc. If it costs someone like Garland in a package then you do it.

My skating ability is better than your ability to deduce cause-and-effect

Yes, because there's no cause and effect between players that grow up training and playing on bigger ice. Then come to play on a much smaller playing surface to play against players who have been for generations. It's a super easy transition that's practically done in minutes without help, especially if you don't fully understand it.

We can go for a skate anytime and discuss my deductive abilities...but you have to be able to keep up.

I mean it's practically a different sport. I'm surprised they even know where the net is when they come over

Of course there's a learning curve. But as someone pointed out a few pages earlier, 4 of the top 5 scorers aren't Canadian, and your reply was "Experience". So, I guess that generational advantage doesn't last so long? And that totally glances over Americans, but ya know...

And sure thing. I'm in Germany, so it's a bring-your-own-helmet policy. Make sure you get a good warmup in, don't want that ticker giving out on you before we make it around this giant ice sheet twice

Apparently they already gave him permission to talk to the Islanders about a role there. Writing on the wall.

No way they can bring back Marner. Not many options available for them though.. maybe they try Boeser?

I guess after nine years of trying to "run it back", with four different coaches, they've decided change is needed. I love when there's chaos in Leaf land, makes me feel better about the Canucks.

My Wife's Danish. I'm happy for them. But let's face it. The World's are an afterthought in Canada compared to European countries. Every Canadian player would rather be here playing for the Cup.

Love that they took it to game 7 then crapped the bed at home... again.

I agree, if he’s a guy Detroit wants for Larkin for example I’m for it. I’m just talking about general value he drives the play and helps a lot on and off ice.

Moving the goalposts much? I mean, it's still a world championship and losing to Denmark of all teams is pretty bad. It's not like Denmark is known for a ton of NHLers like say a Finland, Sweden, or even the Swiss and Germany.

So suddenly a single game knockout elimination round is the Stanley Cup playoffs? And the World Championship is the NHL? My goalposts are firmly planted, yours on the other hand....

Good for Denmark. How do you think they fare in a 7 game series? Yeah, suck it.

I'm hoping that your kidding yourself just to get a dig in at me. Anything can happen in those type of tournaments. They are nowhere near what happens in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

There's no point in arguing further. It's a ridiculous comparison.

It's a winner takes all game, that's the LITERAL definition of a game 7. It's a perfect comparison. You just don't like it because it makes your whole argument about Canadians and winning hockey championships invalid. A team with no NHLers and mostly AHL to ECHL and SEL level players beat a team made up of Canadian NHL stars in a game that is the literal definition of a Game 7. That's at best embarrassing and at worst shows how badly we've fallen internationally thanks to Hockey Canada being corrupt.

You want to say it doesn't matter because it's not the Stanley Cup? Fine, that's true, it's not, but it's still a world championship and many players including Canadians dream of winning it, especially those stuck on teams that are bad and have no shot at making the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a chance to win a Cup.

I didn't say it doesn't matter. I said anything can happen in single elimination tournaments. My argument is we need more Canadians on the Canucks roster to succeed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Not a game in the Worlds. You're turning it into something completely different. That's fine, but at least be accurate about what I've written.

But, you seriously believe the World Championships are the same sort of Hockey as the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs?

Just ridiculous.
