Leafs were 1 and 3 against Florida this year. Tampa looked like gold until they ran into that buzzsaw in Florida. That team has been to the Finals 2 years in a row and doesn't look like they're ready to slide down in the standings. The Leafs do have an issue with concentration, at times. That would be a killer when they run into the wrong team. Florida is that kind of team. So they need to be ready for a tough series. Tampa got the living daylights kicked out of them against Florida. We really are an under-dog in this next series. - PrinceLH
Only by your standards. Take all your narratives out, Stolarz has been excellent so far. Leafs PK has been good. Leafs PP less good outside of the start of the series. Leafs team defense is solid.
Oh and the sens swept the leafs in the regular season. Doesn't take away how well the leafs played in those games but sure...point to the record.
Florida is certainly no slouch but let's remember this is the same Florida team that DID goto the finals after beating the leafs in round 2 but only after sneaking in and beating Boston by the skin of their teeth in a game 7. Why can't the leafs go on the same run? NOONE thought the Panthers were that team 2 years ago. Not even you did or saw that.
Leafs have the same abilities. They have grinders/hitters and top end talent to match or surpass the Panthers. |

I think the leafs will step up here - Aaron_85
They will have to.
I've watched alot of playoffs hockey so far. Florida was the most impressive team in the eastern conference during the first round.
That doesn't mean they're invincible though. |

Pull games 1-4 out of those stats and come report back. Actually don’t bother there is no need to feed the Willy vs Nylander debate.
Be happy they won and move on. - Cush29
Yeah man just trying to talk about how clutch Willy had been year after year in elimination games and the haters have to bring up other players.
Thank god Berube doesn’t wear their blinders realizes the massive changes Willie had made to his game and had the stud out there in the final minute

Marner was a lot better tonight, good kills, good defensively, but I still want more out of him. - gravyface
Marner never chases the play. Never out of position.
But tonight was Willys night. He can have all the glory.
It’s a team game.
But the hero’s were Benoit, Tanev, McCabe, OEL, Rielly (kinda), and most importantly Stolarz.
Edit: Carlo did some good things too. |

Berube clearly knows better. The only guy in leafs nation who not only kept Patches in the line up but put him on the second line. We should just trust the coach.

He’s being paid 10.9 he is not value for money in the way he performed tonight but he’s capable of much much more. He just needs to be more focused and get over his fear of Failure.
He can do it. We need him to do it. |

I was talking about our clutch playoff performer Nylander. I cannot imagine Willie’s stats if he had 2 beasts like Matthews and Knies winning puck battles for him and creating space. Tavares does a decent job of that though - jribout
Since MMTN have been Leafs, I believe Marner leads the team in regular season and playoff points.
People want to let a 28 year old, 100 pt. guy, walk for nothing.
Has any team ever done that?

They've also had playoff failures over the last 9 years. When the Panthers snuck in and went to the finals, 2 years ago, they had goaltending that was unconscious. Last year, the same. 1st round this year, the same. They're not pigeons. It'll take a lot of good fortune to win a series against them.
On the Sens beating the Leafs in every game this year, the same was prevalent 20 years ago, when they played the Sens 4 out of 5 years. Leafs would lose the regular season to the Sens, then beat them in the playoffs. Even when the Leafs just squeezed in as the last team into the playoffs, they beat the first place Sens 4 straight.

They aren’t what you’d call fans.
They’re haters. That’s how they live.
Absolutely nothing wrong with Marners games tonight. But instead of enjoying the game like a fan would, they decide to use this opportunity to hate on one of their players. Very similar behaviour to a certain segment of the population who support a certain former reality TV host. |

Well as I said the other day, you truly don't believe this team has any ability so just go away for the playoffs and you can come in at the end and say "told you so" like you've been wanting to do. You asked me if the leafs beat the sens do they even stand a chance? You clearly didn't agree when I said yes because you only see negative.
20 years ago doesn't matter TODAY. If you want to talk about the leafs playoffs issues for the past 9 years let's do the same for the Panthers. Oh? They didn't get anywhere? Like let's compare apples to apples. Panthers are great right now but literally 2 years ago noone thought twice about them in any capacity. You keep sucking the tailpipe of the leaf hater truck though.

But time to go do something better than laugh at the (frank)ing cowards here who can't do anything but hate a team they supposedly cheer for. Called it over while they were up THREE GAMES TO TWO.
None of you would have (frank)ing been upset if before the series you were asked if you'd take that. None of us would be upset. |

Dude go fight with Joel. I am not talking about Marner nor have I commented on re-signing him.
But man Willy is clutch. I am fine with signing Marner to 11.5

Just pointing out the obvious about this team. I give them credit when it's earned, but also point out their misgivings when they don't. They pretty much mailed in game 5 and that has to be concerning. If Ottawa had scored first tonight, this would have been a different outcome and we'd be ready to burn our jerseys in unison if they went 7 and lost. That would have been the ultimate disaster and would have gutted this roster next year. Momentum can either kill you or cure you. The Leafs were fortunate that they never fell behind tonight or Saturday would have been gut wrenching. I truly want this team to win the Stanley Cup. I saw them win it when I was 9 years old. I'm going on 68 and I'm really starting to get worried that I'll never see them win, or even get to the finals in the last almost 59 years of my life. It would be nice to see them carry the Cup in glorious colour after last seeing them do it in black and white.
