Nobody has any way of knowing that right now.

It entirely depends on what they could add that they don’t have now with that cap space and flexibility.

And yes the exact same can be said for any player they move out or let walk including JT. The reality is none of the guys with NMC are waiving them so the only moves they can make that free up a big chunk of cap space is JT / Marner.

We can poop on Matthews and Willy for not living up to their salaries, they can decide Marner hasn't earned the right to get that salary to hold him accountable to. Big difference.

Imagine giving the guy who's tracking to be one of the greatest scorers in the history of the league whatever he wanted. What an odd concept.

It's even weirder when you look at how "whatever he wanted" has turned out to easily be fair market value both times.

Matthews is not the one who's spent the last 6 years under the microscope for not living up to his contract just to turn around and set himself up to fleece the team for every cent again.
