Stolarz has let in more than 2 goals once. He's fine. The Hart/Vezina Winner has let in 500 goals in 4 games. - AdamFrench
Yeah, but he's not scoring, so let him ride the pine. |

This makes sense as a potential spark to the offense, but more importantly the JT line has been consistently getting their faces caved in defensively, and MM will help with that. - Whipper
Then move JT to the top line.
Willy is (frank)ing ass away from the puck so Ottawa could easily match their shutdown line vs AM/WN.
Honestly you people are so stunned. Nylander is so (frank)ing bad w/o the puck. It’s hard to watch. Marner is so good. He makes so many exceptional defensive plays that put them in good spots. Willy just wheels around blowing the zone early looking for breakaway passes that he doesn’t even score on. |

Agreed, give Woll a crack at game 6, you can always revert to Stollie in game 7 if it doesn't work out. What's the point of having two really good goalies if you're only going to ride one?
In Woll we trust - Whipper
Well that's the thing, Stolarz kind of "won" the net despite being the back-up because he was on a hot streak.
Game 1 and Game 2, he maintained that streak. Games 3, 4 and 5, his SV% has been pretty bad considering the location and number of shots he is facing.
I wouldn't blame him for the losses, especially Game 5, but it's clear this Leafs team needs a game stolen by the goalie and Woll has done that for us before. |

Marner has been the Leafs best forward so far. Knies pretty good too. - Tanooki
So good, especially on the short handed goal...master class player.
(frank)ing Lorentz has been better than Marner, (Matthews, Willy, JT and Rielly)....Knies and a few other guys on the bottom 6 and D corp have been better than the lot of them.
Regular season Marner is great. Playoff Marner, greedy Marner and everything else about him sucks. |

Explain to us exactly what he was supposed to do on the SH goal lastnight?
How’s it his fault?
See, you guys are so full of hate towards him that everything is his fault. He’s by far their best player. |

Yeah I think Marner was expecting Willy to at least put a little effort on the back check instead of coasting. |

I think the worst part about what has been happening with Matthews is that he's missing open nets.
If we all expected him to deke out the entire team like we see from MacKinnon and McDavid, that would be one thing. But you would think the guy who can score 70 can at least hit the wide open net.
He doesn't need to take over the entire game. He just has to score basic goals that a player with even half his salary could score. And that's what happens when the fans and the media in this market are so on top of these guys that they grip their stick so hard, they stumble.
Their desire to win is dwarfed by their fear of losing. And it shows. |

Mhmm.
If they had a killer instinct, they wouldn’t worry at all about losing. |

What a ridiculous take to blame the fans and media for players choking like dogs on a chicken bone. There are players, in all sports, who are completely capable of performing in supercharged media/fan markets. Newsflash - some of them even *thrive* on it! |

He did but Marner has taken some heat for the way he defended the two on one. I think he thought Willy was going to catch the other guy but instead Willy did his best Ovi impression. |

Matthews did will them through in the only series they won. Scored a pair of 3rd period goals to push OT and stop the collapse. Marner disappeared from game 4 on in the same series. There's that...
The elite two way centre with size will always be more valuable than a playmaking winger. No matter how many clueless people go out of their way to try to make the guy who consistently tries to rape his hometown team for money seem more important. |

 Matthews willed them through.
Marner had more points, more ice time, and better +/-. Tavares only had 1 less goal and didn't he score the OT winner in Game 7. But yeah, Matthews "willed them through".
Even if you call that "elite", what happened during the other failures.

There was a complete, team-wide controller disconnect in the offensive zone last night .
Nylander was just trying to apply the same work ethic to all 3 zones.

They won in game 6. Marner had what, 1 point as soon as they got to games that could close out the series? Split hairs all you want. Nylander, Matthews, Tavares, all had clutch goals in that series, you barely knew Marner played past game 4.
The rest also failed during other failures. The difference is the others can point to a moment they showed up when it counted, we are still waiting for Marner to do the same. |

He has 2 goals in the past 14/15 playoff games.
That series that matthews apparently "willed" them to win, pretty much the whole team was playing great and vasi was a tire fire.
Then Matthews disappeared in round 2...had one assist i think....marner had one dominant game in that series which was the reason the leafs didnt get swept.
On average both matthews and marner disappear when it counts.

They lost game 5 by a score of 4-2 and won game 6 by a score of 2-1. Of those 4 goals, yeah Marner had 1 point. He was also +3, so he was on the ice for 75% of the goals scored and wasn't on for any even strength goals against - so I'm supposing he was contributing just fine, even if he didn't wow you specifically on the scoresheet.
There's been a fair bit of recent evidence of Marner not being at the top of his game - like against Florida or Boston last year. He is leading the team in scoring this year and he's not -3 like Tavares or Nylander. Why is everything somehow Marner's fault on this team?
