Keep Matthews but move Nylander. Keep Marner and use the extra cash for an actual grade A defenseman. Let Tavares walk and grab Bennett from Florida as a UFA. Time to break this team up. - PrinceLH

Cause they beat an 8th place team in 6 games?
No. - Fakepartofme

same old leaf story. score less as the series goes on. play soft as butter. - systemtool
The PP went from deadly to dead.
If they score on the PP, they win the next game and the series. |

NMC/NTC’s mean Jack poop btw.
Willy will waive to go to any place that’s warm, a contender, or a big spotlight. - Tanooki
Yes, he locked in here for 8 years and negotiated in a full no move clause because he's willing to go somewhere else due to weather.
You've been going on this Nylander will be moved any second tirade for literal years. For the love of not being a visibly repetitive moron with uncontrollable ocd just give it a rest. |

Both are extended on full NMC's, the third doesn't have a contract.
Marner is the one looking for one of the biggest contracts in the league right now and in his show you he's worth it moment is doing what he consistently does every single time a series is on the line. Absolutely nothing.
It's about not continuing to pay top dollar for guys that cannot do it, not undoing what's been done. - joel878
Sorry, but as soon as you point out that Marner is doing nothing with series' on the line, and neglecting to actually look at what Matthews has done, then there is no point having a discussion.
Have a good night. |

Id move out matthews, use that 13.5m elsewhere - Fakepartofme First line centres are hard to come by. He's a good defensive forward as well. Not sure if an injury is hindering him this year. Of course, they could listen to offers. McDavid is not far off from UFA. Maybe keep Tavares, grab Bennett and trade Matthews until 97 is available.

They moved the puck so slow. When they were successful, they were moving the puck fast.
If I am the coaching staff and I see them move it that slow, I pull them off the ice. They never score like that.

Are you being deliberately obtuse or stupid. The discussion point is clearly based on the idea that Marner is the one coming up needing a new contract, and is therefore the one in the earn it spot.
The other two haven't done squat either but they're not looking to earn a top 10 payday in the entire league right now, are they. |

0 for 30 on the powerplay in series closing games.
They ice like half a team's cap space on the ice and THAT is the result
If you have to look at a single stat to describe their utter failure, that would be it. |

No #1 Centers are hard to get, have we not learned one (frank)ing thing.
Soft wingers are not.
Keep centers. |

Matthews is injured, 100%, so he gets a slight bye, but at this point, is he just injury prone?
Marner is a talented winger, but he's no unicorn. Matthews, the big coveted 1C who has a chance of being a top 3 goal-scorer of all-time? Yeah, you hang onto that guy.
Marner or Nylander could go, but I'd keep Nylander over Marner because he scores. Getting secondary apples and playing shifty small ball with no jam is everywhere, in every draft class. |

100%. Marner's going to be asking for stupid money again and at this point, I'd rather spend 8M on a center and another 5M on a 2/3 winger who can bang in the playoffs and will drive the net. |

He is no better than Marner over all the failures. He has not been injured all that time.
I am a little concerned about the injury prone thing. He hasn't looked right all year.
What UFA's do you think really help with what you have left in cap after you let Marner walk and sign the other guys you need to sign. ( I haven't looked at the UFA crop)

He's got a full NMC and isn't going anywhere.
If the Leafs lose this series, it would be in their best interest to let Marner walk and try to take a big swing for McJesus or spend that 13-14M on some quality Top 6 pieces that won't break the bank. |
