i dont know how insulting it is to give a guy 5m per coming off his ELC. You can use Lawson Crouse as a comparable, Id say they're similar players and its more than what hes making.

And how many years is crouses contract?

Had to be their own pick. If they traded their own they’d have to get it back
- nyrangers9479

Well, theres quite a few teams outside of the top 10 that have their own 1st round picks, however a bunch dont have their 3rd. MTL, LA and WPG can offer sheet him.

Im just trying to get away from a bridge deal that would ultimately lead to him being an offer sheet eligible RFA in 2 years.

There’s a website that lists all the teams eligible for which offer sheets. I forget the site, but shouldn’t be hard to find with a quick duck duck go search.

If you said 5x5 it’d be more reasonable. But still likely not enough

However, at 9.5m per year, hes been grossly overpaid for pretty much the entirety of his contract, scoring more than 60 points only 2 times in the 8 years, and under 50 in 2 of the last 4 years. However, at no point was Jim Nill giving Benn any ultimatums or putting a gun to his head to force a trade, because he was their captain and leader.

I have no idea what the rules are on this, but Im not sure it has to be their own, as long as they own any 1st round draft pick...
- aecliptic

The rules are it has to be your own pick. If you own someone else’s through a trade that doesn’t count.

I'd give him that deal and slap the C on his chest. Let him be our Shane Doan for the next 10 years.
The captaincy is an interesting dilemma for this team. Being the organization that goes without a captain for 4 years and rotates A's around half the team is a ridiculous look, so hopefully they've gotten that out of their system.
Trouba was chosen at the time when the majority of the fanbase felt it should go to Kreider. He was a solid leader until this past season(regardless of how anyone feels about that), but his inflated contract always loomed over his captaincy.
I'm sure Miller winds up with an A, but with his history I don't think he's captain material. Miller being here excludes Trocheck for me because I feel like he will always defer to Miller as his buddy and overall better player.

SJ ended up with a HAUL just for basically giving Wallman a jockstrap for 50 games.

Got a 2nd just for taking him.

Then traded to EDM for a 1st

- nyrangers9479

They did get quite the haul for him. Very impressive, but at some point don't they need to start keeping guys like him?

Chicago was actually worse trading Hall. Especially how Bedard interviewed after about how Hall was a mentor for him helping him out with the struggles and pressure of a #1 overall pick.

I just cringe when I hear fans of bottom feeding teams that are more concerned about giving their rookies and young prospects all the time and want to get rid of vets.

Take it from an Oiler fan, you need a mix of youth and vets.

Don't get me wrong as an outsider I think Drury should've been turfed.

However, Rags forums are going to become very salty. You are going to start having posters that rather the team lose than have success. Saw it here in Edmonton with Chia pet, Holland and now Bowman. Actually it goes back further with Tambo, MacT and Kevin Lowe too

Fact is he is still there and you should be cheering for the team on the ice and late the hatred for the GM go.

It’s the conversation that will never die. And no we can’t move on to other conversations with the Misery mob here (they know who they are)

You have to wonder if Dolan is making Drury go to the games and being like "this is what I need from you!"

This is silly...Drury's team did go to Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals last year. Drury made a pitch to Dolan to change things up and was granted that.

I am certainly pulling for the Knicks and hoping they will do at least what the Rangers did in 2 of the last 4 seasons under Drury.

Be careful Drury doesn’t get any credit for those ECF runs around here lol
