Does anyone think the Rangers will try and land Ekblad this offseason? He is likely going to command a large contract. But he would definitely help the back end tremendously

Solid player but unfortunately another right shot defenseman.

For sure. People hate on Borgen, but he’s a pretty physical guy and can chip in at half the price of Ekblad. Hopefully a healthy Schneider can do more of that next season as well. Beyond that our D is extremely soft.

Yea if Borgen went to ufa this summer he is getting around 5 million AAV. Glad we got him at what we did

Are we more likely to finish outside the top 13? Kind of hope we give up the pick

I am really surprised that Mike Sullivan hasn't already signed with the Rangers!?

It’s protected in the sense that we don’t HAVE to send it. We choose whether to send whatever pick we get this year, OR our unprotected 1st for next year.

Edit: obviously we will keep it if it is 1, 2, or 3. I’m guessing we will also keep it at 11-13 but time will tell.

Giving PITT pick 11-13 is basically them saying they expect to be worse next year. Won’t happen.

Maybe that's why Drury received an extension, so that he is thinking long-term and not short term to save his job with stupid moves?

Only reason would be if you expect next years draft to be significantly better, as in you would rather pick bottom third of next year vs 11-13 this year. While everything I have heard is that next year is expected to be better, I doubt it is THAT much better. Another reason to send the pick now would be to retain the future one as an asset to trade.

Yep this is exactly it. Picks 21-25 next year may be better than the 12-13 pick in this draft. Plus could be more valuable in future trades if they want to go that route

That’s what I’m doing if I’m Drury. Bit of a hedge, and not necessarily admitting he thinks they’ll be worse next season.

It would be wild if they somehow win a top 3 pick. I’m in the camp of giving the Pens 11-12-13 this year, and save next years pick for trade, or if we suck we still have it

This perks me up. I’d be very happy with either Tocchet or Sullivan. Anyone else is meh at this point. Maybe Carle would get me excited idk

Rangers need stability behind the bench more than anything imo. Like this hire needs to be the coach for a decade at least, ala Cooper. Who still has that teams ear for the most part. Florida is just a beast

All I know is when Kreider inevitably gets traded, I'm going to have to drive out to bucks county and get TPC some beers to drown his sorrows

Nah it won’t be that bad. The time has come. Actually it will be kind of nice not to hear majority of the fan base blame him for everything going forward lol. I’ll still follow him from a distance. If/when the rangers get knocked out I’ll be hoping for him to win a cup
