Good coach. Really stale in Pittsburgh. The Pens have been going through the motions under him for at least 3 years. - madmike71
Any young guys develop well under him and does him give them opportunity?
I was 100% for him to the Rangers if he became available but the above is my first priority now. Obviously finding a balance between winning now and developing players is ideal but not sure how feasible. |

The Pens haven't really had any good prospects for years. Back in those cup years, yes. Guys like Guentzal, Sheary and Rust. Not much since. We have a few guys that are coming up now. He tended to always favor vets. In his defense, our young guys never really stood out. |

Looks good on paper. Drury will probably fire them all this time next year.

Really big bomb from the Penguins this morning. Didnt expect it, both Sullivan and Dubas said things at their year-end conference that made it seem like the status quo would be maintained going into next year.
The only thing that changed from then to now is obviously the Rangers job opening up. Pretty obvious that's likely the direction he wants to go.
Sully is the best coach in Penguins history, tenure wise. Im sure the Penguins couldve tried to trade him to the Rangers for compensation, but due to Sully's contributions to the Penguins, Im sure it was mutual to facilitate the move. Maybe a gentleman's agreement the Rangers would part with their 2025 1st assuming it isnt top 3?
Good get for you guys - completely transformed the Penguins into a Cup winner within a few months of taking the job. He has his veteran favorites, but he did get better over time with playing younger guys. |

Quinn transformed our PP this year. The Pens should give him a raise. Not sure I want him as HC, but the Pens need to keep him.

It definitely feels that way. Rangers young players are more north/south which I think gives them a good chance to have solid roles under him.
If Mika stays, I’d think he could get more out of him. Also Miller and Trocheck should thrive as well. That’s a pretty good 3 C’s if they all play to their potential.
With him potentially coming over now, he could help shape what should be a very busy offseason. |

Fair enough. I'm just very sour on him because I thought he was crap during his Rangers tenure. |

Now that you are going to get Sully, I have no interest in your pick next year. I was hoping you'd hire Torts as head coach.
It would be funny if we hired Tocchet right under Philly's nose lol, but I dont think thats the direction we will go.
Local guy in Pittsburgh radio said Sully made a list of non-negotiable demands to FSG and FSG said no. |

To inherit a team with Crosby, Malkin, Letand and MAF isnt a bad spot to land in either.

The group of players I think would be most at risk of getting passed up by Sully would be 1) bad skaters and 2) players with low work ethic or low hockey IQ.
He will have some exceptions and you will wonder why Player X keeps getting a jersey some nights, but generally he gives guys who deserve chances an opportunity.
Maybe we can trade you Karlsson - Sully LOVED Karlsson. (sarcasm tone).

No, but it was a team that had flamed out in 2012, going swept in ECF in 2013, blew a 3-1 series lead versus you guys in 2014, and lost again to the Rangers in 2015 in 5 games.
So the talent had been there, but they needed to elevate their levels to get back to the Cup.
