Last week I believe the club declined its contract option on tocc essentially making him a FA. I believe they are still speaking about him staying but he can move on if he wants. That’s how I understand it. Before that, I would have said the chances were low.
- Hextall271

My understanding was Vancouver declined their end of the option and left in Tocchets hands whether he wants to opt in to stay.

Yes. So he’s essentially a FA. if he says, thanks I’m out, he can move to another team. They’ve made him an offer and say they want him to stay but he could walk is how I understand it

I just read an article that stated Tocchet is still in negotiations about an extension to pay him at least $4-million a year. I don't see why he's such a hot commodity right now. Won a Jack Adams, yes, but that doesn't happen without Demko playing like he did. Tocchet hasn't proven enough to warrant that pay, but I guess if the Canucks are that high on him, they better pay up or he's heading to Philly.

"Those 2 guys did virtually nothing while helping Calgary MISS the playoffs."

Farabee said that he was getting more freedom on the ice in Calgary compared to Torts in Philly. Farabee scored 3 goals and 3 assists in 31 games in Calgary. I guess all of that freedom still didn't help? Frost scored 3 goals and 9 assists. Frost can stick handle in a phone booth, but can't put the puck in the net and as a Center, he never made the players around him better. I'm glad that both of them are gone.

I’d be fine to go with someone outside like Carle who has been mentioned, but if he doesn’t sign with Vancouver I expect him to be interviewed here.

What did he subtract? Break it down. All players who the former coach wanted out and Provorov who asked out. Who did he add that is potentially part of the group going forward. Briere was the assistant to Chuck. He was here and needed 2 more years to evaluate? He has done very little during his tenure.

He has flat out said it is time to add. By adding they are not going to be in contention for a shot at the top pick in 2026. Unless they fail which will be not by design. You say they will not tear it down, yet you want them to have a shot at that top pick. How realistic is that possibility?

- Striiker

After evaluating Frost and Farabee, looking at the next contract for Frost, DB moved on. Me wanting them going for the 2026 #1 is different from what I think they will do. Unless they can thread the needle and find the right C and D and G, they need to stay the course, draft, move up in draft for talent, make good youth position trades to fill holes. DB saying add, while he knows they are not ready to contend, is different than trade to contend.

Sorry, but I'm not buying into the notion that Ristolainen could be moved. When you look at the contract, recent history of injury, and complete lack of playoff experience, why would anyone not named Chuck Fletcher want him?

Isn't "Chuck the f---" an advisor for someone? we've seen first hand the negative impact advisors can have....

Great, another 7-8 year contract to a 29+ yo. They can age gracefully with TK and Couturier...and Tippet to an extent....

Carle has a contract at DU ending in 26-27. Based on his recent Joe Smith interview, it looks like he’s set to stay at least next year. One of his associates says that he probably wouldn’t go to the NHL unless it’s a team that can win now.

That’s nice to say but I bet that his current contract wouldn’t pay him what an nhl gig would. Also not sure if they’d hold him back from such an opportunity even if under contract.

How often is a team in “win now” mode looking for a coach?

It happens, but that’s rare. Like *maybe* the Rangers, and that window is closing.

If Carle wants to win at the collegiate level, then he’s golden. However, if he is the competitor I think he is, he will want a Cup. He’s gonna have to jump to a rebuilding team with a few nice assets. Usually it’s the teams in bad shape who need a coach. That’s obvious.

Philly isn’t the worst scenario, in fact it could be a fun franchise for a hockey guy, but only if he runs it carte blanche.

There in lies the problem.

Making $750,000 coaching college hockey in Denver is a pretty sweet deal.

Sure is. But if you’re young, hungry, and successful, you can’t tell me you don't have dreams of the top prize.

It’s not like NCAA football where there are a few programs that a job is as coveted as the NFL. Different animal.

Carle could always return to a college program with open arms.

Why not try to create something special with the pros?

If you miss, then you’re back where you started. No biggie. But if you hit. Well, then the rewards are massive.

If nothing else, you’ve got an answer to whether or not you can coach and create with the best of them.

Yeah, no doubt you’ve got to give it a shot. I’m just saying, he’s got a pretty great situation right now.

Hockey folks are saying Denver will fall back this year because they lost so many players. Carle says that’s hogwash. Carle’s MO is to reload every year. He scours the portal and everywhere else to find players that fit in to his team philosophy. He thinks he can win next year.

Hes not looking to just get an NHL job. Hes looking to get the job where he can win now. No rebuild. No iffy retool. That’s my read anyway.

I get that. Sure. But rebuild what? A great college hockey program.

It’s a good gig, but he’s got a shot somewhere in the NHL to compete for the ultimate prize.

You know that’s gotta be nagging him. I bet he’s playing it cool to see how good the offers get.

Carle is very comfortable in that Denver environment. He’s not desperate. I agree with you that he may be downplaying a desire to be an NHL coach. He knows what he wants and I think he has a good idea of where he has a good chance for success.Vancouver looks too messy and Philly isn’t close enough yet. But I could be wrong.

Holy F, I am back after a 30 day suspension!

I said Mangiapane is a average to below average player and the Flyers do not need him. Next thing I knew I was suspended.

EK, fix the BS suspensions!

Yeah. All good points. 750k or let’s say they offer him 3 mil a year. That money talks and there’s no cap implications for coaching contracts. It might be a hard offer to turn down. Further, he’s always going to say I like it here, I don’t want to go etc.. in the event that no offers come that are to his liking. Someone walks up to say here’s 3 mil a year for 5 years to coach an nhl club then it’s, I couldn’t pass up this opportunity etc etc
