Four years ago, when both were ACs with the CBJ, the Blue Jackets hired the wrong Brad (Brad Larson) to replace Torts, while not even interviewing Brad Shaw. We watched the team go in the crapper, and the non-development, lack of motivation, and no intensity with the players, and completely derailed. It's hard to say that Brad Shaw would not have put the team on a better track . . . just sayin' !! |

I guess Brad Shaw doesn’t generate much excitement around here? |

Hopefully Briere cleans house and brings in somebody from outside the Flyers organization? Let's see which coaches gets fired around the league before making a decision. |

I have nothing against Shaw but I want a coach with a track record of developing players. I dont mind if Shaw stays as part of the Staff but nothing more. Rocky's time is up |

Here are my knocks against Shaw
- hand picked by Tortorella, a coach that the game has passed by
- already engrained in "the Flyer's way"
- Keith Jones likes him
- and something I did not think of - he is too used to playing good cop |

I think I won the preseason "guess MIchkov's point total" game. 63 in 80 rounds to 65 in 82.

Yay me! - PT21 I said a successful season for MM would be 20 goals and 30 assists, so he surpassed my expectations despite Torts holding him back.

That was about where I was targeting, too
I had thought 45 points would be a good stepping stone (like 20g 25A), 50 points would make me happy, and 60 I would be ecstatic.
I’m pretty psyched PT21 won. |

I also didn’t wanna jinx the kid. I did think he was a capable of a great year, but he did pass my expectations.
Weird that. I don’t believe in jinxes, and yet I respect a sports jinx all the time.
I know what anybody does or says has no effect on the outcome of the game unless you’re directly involved, but I still recognize it.
For example, the most I might do is clear my throat, raise my brow, and put my tongue in my cheek once a pitcher goes 7 clean innings, but I’ll never say “hey, he’s got a no hitter goin!” Seems rude. I’d actually look at them like they’re the rube even though I’m the ass giving the jinx any credibility.
It’s only ever sports related ones. None of that black cat or broken mirror hoodoo. |

In your posts that day, you just said what you would be happy/overjoyed with not what you expected. But here you admit he exceeded your expectations.
I personally tempered expectations purely because of the Torts effect. For any team other than us and maybe San Jose, I would have guessed 77+ points. I feel he played chunks of the season at maybe 60-70% of capability, and that he will become a regular 90+ points/season player when he finds it worthwhile to go full bore. The guy has that rare sense of anticipating plays 1 pass ahead of everyone else.

Looked like he was running on fumes before the 4 Nations tourney and then came back refreshed. This year was probably by far the most hockey that he ever played in his career. Probably needs to up his fitness level for the rigors of the NHL season and wouldn't hurt to improve some on his skating. Those things occur and get him better players to play with, and he should be topping the 100 point barrier if he can stay healthy. |

I am indeed overjoyed with his performance, especially with the team and coach given.
Furthermore, he made a strong push down the stretch. Gotta love that. |

Would love some actual open discussion from the mods here since they’re all about banning people over nothing with zero explanation.
Was just banned for 30 days over slighting Flyers management. No foul language. No threats. No anything. Been posting here for 15 years and I’ve seen astoundingly worse said go unchecked for years.
Ban me again if need be. You deserve to be called out for treating your loyal visitors like garbage. - hereticpride
You got a 30?
For complaining about an unsuccessful management that has been frustrating its fan base for decades now?
lol. I’m reminded of the ol’ George Carlin “Garbage in, garbage out.” Makes you wonder if “This is the best we can do, folks.”
If I get slapped with a 30 for whatever reason, I’ll just kick rocks. Idgaf. It’ll be a wake up call to do something constructive or find hockey news elsewhere.

Anyone follow Ravensbergen enough to know if he’s worth consideration with one of our late 1sts?
Nice size kid for netminder |

I would stay away from selecting a goalie in the first round: too high a bust rate and terrible value on the trade market. Looking at the Flyers current and likely future roster, the late first round prospects taken this year will likely be trade bait unless they are home runs. |

I just read that Hart’s (and the other 4 players) trial starts today. Should be interesting. How’s it work in Canada? Will press be allowed in to cover it? Doesn’t sound like the players will be there.
Edit: scratch that…I just read that the players were in court today. |

The press will cover it….and players have been told they do not have an option….they are to attend for all of the 8 weeks it apparently will take. Today was the 1rst day to pick the jury and players entered their plea.
