Are we certain this happened? Can’t imagine ownership allowing this.
- streaks

If it was done ownership approved it.
If you were moving on from a GM would you let him make extensions without approvals.
It’s almost laughable really.

Ses honestly saying the 7 year deals should be over is nonsense. If you could sign Dobson for 8 years at 5 million would you do it?
- nyisles7

7-year deals for players like Mayfield and Pierre and even a late twenty-year-old player like Lee are the issue. Young talented players like Dobson and Barzal are a different story.

Why would the owners want to keep Chris around if the father will be gone and Bridgeport has been a mess?

Ok so saying 7 year deals shouldn’t be done is a wrong statement.

In past posts, I mentioned long term deals for skilled younger players was fine. Let's hope it will no longer be a big issue with the Islanders.

Firstly we don’t know if this is true.
Do you? Maybe Cpt. ?
I haven’t heard this to be true.
Again if they were extended it wasn’t behind ownerships asses.

Sometimes these deals work out and sometimes they don’t and not only for the Islanders. Whether they are old or young players. So I will disagree with your statement about 7 year deals. IMO it’s wrong.

It's happened with the Islanders in the past and I'm sure with other teams. Lou is no longer GM. No need for you to cover him on everything. There is no conspiracy against Lou. If Darche starts giving out lousy contracts and does not improve the roster, he will be hammered as well. If Malkin did allow this, it was a dumb move.

If we had square asses we would poop bricks.
There’s no confirmation these extensions are true. If they were approved why were they dumb?

Why would Strickland make this up? It would be sad if I needed to explain to you the lousy job Chris did with Bridgeport. What has he shown that he should keep his job?

I’m saying I don’t think it happened. And can’t imagine ownership allowing it. Not sure how much freedom he had to make moves over the past several years, but a departing move like this doesn’t seem likely to me.

I’m agreeing with you Streaks.
These are not some band of bumholes running a mom and pop biz. If there were extensions for anyone. Ownership was aware. Once Lou was fired anyone who was under contract by Lou were told they were not going to g to be extended.
Were there exceptions I’m sure but again they weren’t done without ownership’s knowledge.

I’m not familiar with who Stricklund is but he said “hearing” Lou signed…Kind of vague to me. I suppose it’s possible, just doesn’t seem likely to me.

It isn’t worth listening to unless there is team verification honestly.
I could see Pelligrini being extended.

Yes I am exhausting if it is just unverified BS.

Did you see this letter from the Rangers to their fanbase telling their fans they were going to have to rebuild?

Who knows if it’s true. If it is we may never know. I can’t imagine Darche letting Chris stay after he committed to developing the AHL team and along with Collins in so many words said it was neglected by the old geezer. I doubt the team makes it a public spectacle when they fire him if this is true. It would be like smashing an egg on their own face. They’ll more than likely swallow his salary, thank chris for his time, and move on. The last thing I see Darche doing is keeping the old cronies son on who was the actual perpetrator.

But who knows? Maybe the owners keep him on due to some kind of misguided loyalty to Lou. I have a tough time believing that happens but this is the Islanders. Also, Pagnotta confirming this as well. Totally incoherent stuff.

I'll just say it's a good thing a new GM who's still in his honeymoon phase with the fans did this because heads would be exploding if Lou signed Palmieri for two more years
- UIF

You are probably correct with your assumption. However, I like the deal. If things do not work this season and the Isles are looking for draft picks going into the 2026 draft. Palm is more than a rental if traded and could increase his return if they need to move him.

The other difference here is that even if Lou signed him to two and the season went to crap. Lou's track record would be to keep him for the following season instead of using his asset value.

Exactly KR.
Being a fast team means moving the puck quickly and transitioning quickly.
Nothing quicker than that unless you are of course McJesus.
On Lee he brings variables that others don’t. Strong net front presence and also great hands in front. Plays the boards well and is also physical.
Teams need all types of talent and he certainly brings some.
29 goals isn’t bad for a terrible skating washed up 4 th liner.

- nyisles7

What you're saying isn't wrong in the sense of what attributes a team needs. And his 29 goals are very important to a team that does not score. But I have to agree with Rick here. Buffalo has assets, they are looking to break through their playoff drought. We need assets at every level. It could be a good fit and the right time for the Isles too make this move for the future of the team. Say for argument's sake Lee only pots 15 this year with isles. You look to move him at the deadline, and you are clearly getting less of a return then if you try and capitalize on his 29 goals.

Anyway, the way Darche was talking in the presser, it does not sound like the Captain is being moved anytime soon.

Darche will have to give them nothing to do if they cannot be fired just like what happened with Garth.

I’m going to go against the grain here a bit but I have a hard time believing Palmieri is going to have a ton of value at the TDL at 37. His play will more than likely take a huge hit over the next year or so. It’s not like his game outside of scoring has been overly impressive. I don’t dislike him and I’m fine with the contract due to me hoping the islanders are not trying to compete but more to retool. If it were the inverse I’d hope they would’ve moved on from him.
