I agree. Islanders need to get with the times. Howard may actually be ready for the NHL. - ses111
At the end of the day, guaranteeing him a roster spot doesn't actually mean it's going to be guaranteed all season. If he's struggling come American Thanksgiving or Christmas there's no reason they couldn't send him down to Bridgeport to get more minutes and refine his game. |

Is there any scuttlebutt as to who they might take with the first pick? Any chatter about trading it for more picks? - Isleshockeyman
Well being that Darche mentioned the Lightening having the best defensive team which ultimately won them cups, I think he picks Schaefer….which I personally would love.
It’s been mentioned here the isles could trade back for Higgins which I think would be amazing for multiple reasons. Being that Darche and Collins mentioned community a bunch I could see them writing the story of picking the first and then trading for the 4th or 5th to bring home the local kid, who also happens to play with isles blue chip prospect Cole Eiserman. |

Exactly! Islanders have to be flexible. No more sticking forever with vets and sitting young players at the first sign of trouble. |

All part of the new generation of NHL'ers. Without debating who agrees/disagrees with the mentality, this is part of their MO. They want to break in early, not have the old school Mike-Keenan-type coach, have an open line of communication with coaching/mgmt, and they want to get paid when they've earned it.
Love it or hate it, it's how the league is going to operate for the foreseeable future so better to get on board than to be the last dinosaur holding out on moral ground and suffering for it. - Gabe Athaus
I don’t disagree. I’m not suggesting they shouldn’t go after him. I’m all for adding talent. Have at it. Let’s go

I hope Patrick can find a good defensive coach. I think about someone like Bolduc. I'm not sure if he still has a shot. He has good size and can skate, and it would be a shame if he could not make it in the NHL.

Yeah Roy and Darche I’m sure will bring in assistants to fit their weakness’ I.E special teams. They wanna run a fast team on both ends. Whoever they pick will have to fit that style. And if the PP goes 0-24 they don’t come back the following season to become the worst PP in the league. |

I'll just say it's a good thing a new GM who's still in his honeymoon phase with the fans did this because heads would be exploding if Lou signed Palmieri for two more years |

My guess is that he reviewed whatever Lou negotiated with them and it was fine and he just rubber stamped it. Feels like these deals were already mostly done. But it's his first signings. I don't have any problem with the term for Palmieri. |

Two year was more or less what I was expecting, I'm fine with it regardless of who the GM is. That's this year plus maybe flipping him at the deadline next year. It's manageable and it's not like they have a RW prospect knocking down the door for a roster spot either. |

That’s the thing. You’re adding a 25-30 goal scorer for very reasonable money and he’s got value at the deadline to a cup contender. |

Agreed. Until there are younger players beating down the door for the positions, it's good to have competent players there. I've never been a fan of a full-on tank (vs. a retool) because it seems to become the DNA of the teams that do it long after they should be competitive again.
Let's just say I don't think "Lamoriello announces 2-year deal for Palmieri" would have been greeted enthusiastically by much of the fan base. |

My head already exploded when he wasn’t traded. Depending on the numbers I’m pretty indifferent to it. |

Maybe not UIF because Lou's many bad deals cost him any leeway with the fans.

Lou could have announced a trade for Cale Makar and there would have been something wrong with it! Let’s be honest.
