Gross confirming nobody will be working above Darche. Hopefully the old geezer is not kept on in any capacity. |

Definitely would be my concern too. He should have no part of the future. |

I'd be inclined to give Roy at least one more season to see how he does under a different GM, and hopefully where he will be able to pick his own assistants. - JohnScammo
I think there are interviews between the two and also Darsch is going to get the temperature of the team on Roy.
75/25 Roy stays. |

Also Cpt and Tennille stop with the (frank)ing Lou staying BS. You won’t have anything else to female dog about Lou. He’s said his good byes to the organization and isn’t involved with the Isles anymore.
Jesus Christ you’re gonna have to change your setlist!!!!

I agree John. Let Patrick sink or swim with his own people. Plenty of work to do with the roster without looking at the coach for now. - ses111
My opinion is let's see what Roy can bring outside the grips of Lou. Hopefully Darche can provide him with more players that fit into his system. Hopefully both of them have a similar plan.

You either trust a coach or not. Do you hire a coach if you feel you have to hire their assistants.

No. You hire someone because you believe in them and their vision. If your going to micromanage them then why hire them in the first place.
I don't have a strong opinion on Roy. I'm not sure he can be properly evaluated off of last season. |

I do not believe changing Roy at this time is the right thing. I would like to see how he and Darche connect. If Darche does not like the direction, I am sure he will change it.
Unless he has people in mind, I think he tackles draft, our RFA and UFA players, Free Agency, then the AGM and Asst Coaches.

I assume Darche will give him another year. Let him do as he will with his assistants. Then evaluate how he does. Though there is a chance he could go scorched earth and get rid of everyone. I’m fine with either scenario. I’m also pretty indifferent to Roy. Didn’t dislike him and didn’t love him. |

Exactly! Cappy was not a good coach. but Garth was micromanaging him as well.
I think Patrick makes so strange moves like pulling the goalie early, but I think he is good with young players. I would give him more time.

I agree. There is enough on Darche's plate, and I'd rather give Patrick an honest shot with his coaches.

Why do you think he’s good with young players? Not trying to be a douche I just can’t remember anything to hang my hat on that? Past experience in Colorado? |

Patrick's experience in Juniors and maybe with someone like Holmstrom. |

Gotcha. Yeah idk we’ll probably see how Roy does this season with whatever team is assembled by sept. That will more than likely be the barometer for whether he stays or not. If not we’ll have a new coach by the following fall. Not losing sleep about that aspect. |

Yeah, I think we are all 50/50 with Roy. Things could change by Thanksgiving. Roy now I would sit tight and give him a chance to select his own assistants. If there is no progress, I would assume Darche makes his own selection.

Really difficult to say what kind of coach Patrick is at this point. Many great players do not make good coaches so it would not shock if Patrick does not become a good coach.

Islander coaches have had it tough, and it would be nice to see a coach get a fair chance to succeed.

Agreed, we all know that they have not had the necessary pieces. This has definitely had an impact on their performance. I am glad ownership did not use the excuse of injury to justify bringing Lou back.
While there is no doubt that the injuries played a role in the season outcome it is so much more than that. It brought to light just how weak our AHL affiliate is. How much better the overall depth needs to be.

I am looking forward to Darche's introduction news conference. I look forward to hearing how he is going to lay things out. Granted it will be generalized but this what we are eager to hear. |

It could help attract future coaches if the Islanders start to treat coaches better. No more picking their assistants and let the coach decide who makes the team and who sits. |

It's been like this for years for Islander coaches. This is bigger than Patrick.
