From what Iâve heard, Darche hiring likely takes Brendan Shanahan off the table for Isles president spot. No other hires imminent, source says. Plenty of time left in the offseason for that to change,â wrote Staples.
âWith Darche in as Isles GM, Iâm hearing no additional management hires are expected on Long Island in the near future - Brendan Shanahan is not joining the club at this time,â also posted Pagnotta.
You can all rest easy for now |

I like if Darche has the power. I get the idea of a POHO, but you need to find the right person that will be a team player and not cause problems.

This is a little chicken before the egg but the need to have a GM in place superseded a poho. I donât think itâll limit the candidates. They may very well already have someone in mind already who is on board with Darche. |

This could be the case Cpt. It seems the response is opened ended and the door was not completely closed on a POHO.

May be nothing may be something but I thought Collins comments after hiring Darche saying this team will be âhighly competitive next year and beyondâ were interesting. Could be a sign the plan isnât to retool or rebuild. |

They seem pretty confident in his abilities. We all pretty much wanted him. Let's pray for the best. This could be the start of something good.

Yea I caught that as well. We could be in store for a very active draft and free agency period. The fact that information is allowed out makes it even more interesting.

Iâm fine with it as long as itâs not adding more age and bad contracts. |

I think it was the right hire. There was no GM hire available that won a couple of Cups that was fairly young that took a year or two off and wanted back in. |

Id rather they forgo next season and concentrate on acquiring more picks for players on expiring deals. By all accounts next years draft is strong. |

I agree. This year should be about trading players like Lee and JGP and get extra picks for 2016 and taking a run in maybe two years.

Yeah could be the usual we are going to always try to win mantra but wouldnât surprise me if the owners are still focused on winning next year. There is some sense to it with useful players under contract in their prime but Iâd still rather dump next season. |

Depending on what kind of season they both have we could get a decent return on both. Better than letting them walk for nothing or god forbid resigning them. Makes too much sense to focus on retooling next season. |

Ownership needs to tell Darche build this right so it can last for years. Going to be tough for the Islanders to sign quality UFA's right now even with more Cap room and a new GM.

Ethan Sears of the New York Post believes Darcheâs first order of business should be addressing their head coach position. Patrick Roy currently holds that role on a multi-year contract. If Darche fires Roy, Sears listed Greg Cronin, Peter Laviolette, Mitch Love, Jay Leach, Jay Woodcroft and Kirk Muller as potential candidates.
My response to the first four is ummm NO! With the an are you F'n outta of your F'n mind. That wiener did not want to play here. Now you want him to coach this team??? |

Well, if you listen to some here. Now that we no longer have Lou's rules it should not be an issue. Especially since everyone can express facial hair.

Relaxing the rules can help, but it's not enough especially when many teams have the relaxed rules. Islanders need to build up towards being an attractive option.

I do not mind Patrick getting another year. No way to Muller or Lavy. Woodcroft or Leach seem to be the best of those choices.

I'd be inclined to give Roy at least one more season to see how he does under a different GM, and hopefully where he will be able to pick his own assistants.

I agree John. Let Patrick sink or swim with his own people. Plenty of work to do with the roster without looking at the coach for now.

Being down here in Tampa Darche was instrumental in drafting and keeping the affiliate teams competitive. Let's hope he can do the same here. I love the fact he's young and has worked for a winning organization. Many moving parts but I would like to see them keep Dangelo, Reilly and Boqvist, draft Schaefer and move up George. Find a way to move on from Pelech, Pulock and Mayfield. |
