At least with this, Shanny will not need to be a shadow GM and there will be no doubt who is in control. I'm trying to be positive today.

I don't even know what to think anymore. I still think Darche is the move and if they want to hire Shanahan for president I don't endorse that idea but whatever. At this point I just want a GM to be hired and get going on figuring everything out. Right now they're just standing around with their Richards in their hands while important business is going untouched

I agree. I would go with Darche and then a POHO. Knowing the Islanders luck, it will be like the committee part 2. The team needs to make decision already. I just want something that works whether it's one, two, or 3 people.

I don’t know I want them to have someone in place yesterday for GM and poho but think it’s a bit unrealistic for that to happen with the playoffs still going on etc. Now we’ll see movement I suppose due to none of the candidates teams still being in. I’d rather them take their time and get the right person in place than rush it and be stuck with the wrong person for potentially years. This of course doesn’t mean we’ll get the right person but perhaps it lessens the chances of getting the wrong one.

I say this knowing the importance of getting someone in here asap.

Don't disagree with any of it.

If they're waiting on someone like Scott White from Dallas, and Dallas goes all the way to the finals, the season could end as late as June 23rd and the draft is June 27th. Not really a recipe for a good start. Also, they have to figure out what's going on with Dobson. If they can't agree to a long-term extension this summer and he would then be playing out his final year of RFA this season before being a UFA next summer...then they need to trade him ASAP and the draft would be a good time to do that.

The Maple Leafs announce Brendan Shanahan's contract will not be renewed

Please no, please no, please no

I just can't think of anything impressive about Shanahan's philosophy or execution with a team that has limitless resources that would make him a great choice here. I've only seen things from far outside, obviously...but what I saw was, well, less than inspiring!

The league should address that. There is no reason the draft couldn't be until mid/late July and free agency couldn't begin in August.

Yes, I've been saying that, too. The only thing I could see he might bring........and this is if the owners are feeling desperate.......is that he knows everyone around the League. But Lou brings the same thing. I would rather they hire a GM and, if absolutely necessary, keep Lou around as an advisor to the owners, rather than go with Shanahan.

If they hire Darche or Berg as GM I do not have an issue with Shannah as POHO. My thought is that Collins has made a decision on Darche and Bergy. If he is going to hire Shanny he may be giving him the opportunity to select out of the two.

Well the league "season", for operations purposes, runs July 1st through June 30th. So technically player contracts expire on 6/30. I don't disagree with you in theory, but tough to tell a guy his contract is expired but he still has to wait another month to sign a new one. Everyone would be negotiating July 1st anyway, so free agency may as well open then.

I'm fine with the dates as is. I have a problem with not being able to interview people on their team's day off.

"So how can you help the Islanders win a Stanley Cup?"

Also, the article says there are NO plans to hire a PoHO. If the guy is good, they probably don't need one.

No POHO at this time is a shock, but I’m fine with it.
